“Go into the world and do well. But more importantly, go into the world and do good.” – Minor Myers, Jr.
We’ve got teenagers on the brain this week. In our work we’re teaching kids that it’s never too early to learn about and understand your community. No matter our age we all have a personal responsibility to participate in the success of the town we live in.
Thankfully a lot of our schools are teaching social responsibility through community service. What we’ve heard though is that many of the kids (uh, moms) don’t know where to actually find the work. SHARE’s search lets you look for volunteer opportunities for various age ranges.
Here are a few currently available for 15 year olds and up. Go forth and do good!
Alexander Youth Network: Plan and provide a birthday party for children in their program. Good opportunity for a group too.
GenerationNation: Serve on the Youth Council, help with administrative tasks, work on their Kids Voting project.
Freedom School Partners: Help plan and lead afternoon activities for their students. Can do alone or with a friend.
Carolina Waterfowl Rescue: Sort and prepare food for the birds at the Rescue. Great for families!
Special Olympics North Carolina: Be a buddy to an athlete, help with timing and staging of races.
Promising Pages: Wrap books, hand books out to kids, host a used book drive.
