Every day, to and from work I would tote around THE bag. The one that all others knew was a breast pump bag. I went through two different pumps with my first baby, both of which came in different kinds of carriers. My first was a back pack which made me feel like a five-year-old, not a working mom. The second was a black tote, and although it was a little better (and I mean little) in the style department, it didn’t offer much functionality beyond holding the pump, thus turning me into the crazy bag lady – one purse, one pump tote, one cooler bag and one bag for workout clothes. Oh and a lunch bag. It was awful (see the pic to below of the original Medela breast pump bag – YIKES!).
If only there was a pump bag out there that was functional and stylish. Ladies, it exists and I’m proud to say I’m an owner of it. I bring you the Sarah Wells Maddy Breast Pump Bag. This all-in-one bag is exactly what milking mamas need. It’s super chic and fits most pumps, plus much more.
First, let me talk about the creator, Sarah Wells. As a working professional, she also lugged her breast pump around and rather than just accepting it, she created the Maddy bag to stylishly carry her pump. I can stand behind a working mama that paves her own paths!
Let me rave about the features and benefits of this bag:
– Oh my, it’s super stylish. The classic look of a black and tan exterior with a pretty purple interior compliments any wardrobe, whether going to the office or just out and about. As a modern mom that is trying to reclaim her sense of style, this bag is a must accessory for me – pump or not!
– It’s roomy (echo roomy!) Above it being fashionable, it’s functional! There are two large pockets on either side that store your pump motor and accessories, which leaves a large gaping space on the inside of the bag for so much more. You can store your pumped milk in one of the side pockets or main pocket with ice packs, too. I plan on putting my wallet and other day-to-day necessities once I return to work, thus consolidating a few of the above mentioned bags, especially since there’s a nice interior pocket for a tablet (thanks for thinking of us working moms, Sarah!)
It fits most pumps, electric and manual. I got a new Medela Advanced Double Electric Breast Pump and I was able to extract it from the reflective-fishing-tackle-box-looking thing it came in and place it comfortably in the Maddy. If you have any questions about whether your pump will fit the bag, just ask them. Which leads me to…
– Super fast and nice help. I wanted to make sure I extracted my pump correctly from the grips of the cube it came in and I contacted the help email. Within a day, Sarah emailed me back and gave me pointers on how to remove it correctly. According to her, she has what she calls a “graveyard of pumps and bags” so she can help other mamas with their pumps.
– It’s just easy. It’s easy to use, easy to carry and it’s easy to clean. All of the materials can be easily wiped with a damp cloth.
