I have been traveling a bunch for work (and a little for fun). There have been a few times recently where my husband and I were both gone so my mother and mother-in-law took turns spending the night at our house. Without them, our life would crumble. They literally prop it up.
The last time I returned home from a work trip, my daughter gave me this note the minute I walked in the door. There were other versions that had her receiving other items if she completed certain tasks however this is the first one I was presented with.
Here’s the conversation I had with my mother:
Me: “Mom, we are not getting this American Girl Doll bed that by the way after taxes, tag, title is $110. It’s practically Christmas.”
My mother: “You are being ridiculous and mean. She deserves it. She’s been working so hard.” (working so hard? on what?)
Me: “If we gave her everything she asked for in the last month, we’d have a puppy (blonde), frog, lizard, hamster, guinea pig, a cat and a monthly membership to a thousand online games. Instead of writing ransom notes, she should be practicing her spelling (like how to spell dollar and American for starters). And, you got played. She always gets 100% on spelling tests (except if the word dollar is on it). She needs math practice.”
My mother: “Well, we already decided it so you just need to buy it. And we have some other notes that you should see.”
I’m sure that if I become a grandmother, I will spoil my grandkids rotten. I guess I should be thankful that she even made it to school while we were away because if she told my mother she didn’t feel good or was tired (because she stayed up all night eating candy and watching movies), my mother would say “Oh, you’re sick so you don’t have to go” and they’d be at McDonald’s eating Happy Meals. Oh and since little bro can’t write his own ransom notes yet, sissy had to do his dirty work for him. Geez…
