Are all y’all familiar with “5 Hour Energy” drink that comes in that small red bottle? Cynthia Clark is my personal “5 Hour Energy” drink. She is what I call “human caffeine” and if I’m down or sad, then spending time with Cynthia is all it takes for an instant mood lift and energy boost.
The woman will make you feel lazy when it comes to volunteering at school/church/vacation bible school/pre-school/soccer team/etc.
She is always the room mom, soccer team snack coordinator, coach gift buyer, vacation bible school organizer, talent show hair bow maker (yes, she handmade 12 matching and boutique-worthy bows for the girls to wear in their hair for the talent show), Taylor Swift concert memory maker (she hosted a t-shirt decorating pre-party/dinner for 10 girls and their moms the night before the concert, coordinated dinner the night of the concert for 17 people and secured concert tickets for all of us 7 months before the concert!) etc. etc. etc. You tired yet?
She is that cog in the engine that’s essential to it running properly however we all know this can be thankless work yet she is tireless, never complains and is always the first in line to volunteer. I heart me some Cynthia and am so happy to call her my friend. Smarty Charlotte, meet Cynthia!
Married to: Christian for 9 years
Mom to: Alexis (7 years old) and Grant (almost 5 years old)
Occupation: CEO, Clark Household
‘Hood: Foxcroft
Hometown: Palm Beach, FL
1. What is something that most people don’t know about you?
I have a TS SCI (Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information) level clearance from my time working as a government contractor. Nothing like the FBI calling all of your exes during the ‘background check’ process.
2. You will be entering new territory this fall because both of your children will be in elementary school. Any thoughts on this milestone?
It is so bittersweet!! It’s such a blessing getting to watch our children grow up and getting to see all of their milestones, but as a Mom, there is a definite tugging at my heart whenever I think about my “baby” starting at the ‘big school’ and that Alexis will have her First Holy Communion next year. There will be tears.
3. Now for the important stuff … who is your celebrity crush?
Ryan Reynolds and Jason Taylor (Miami Dolphins)
4. What is the last meal you cooked?
Queso smothered chicken with Chipotle scented Orzo and black bean salad – love me some Pinterest recipes!!!
5. If you wrote a parenting manual, the title would be…
“The least efficient way to parent, but hey it works for us!”
6. Household chore you despise the most?
HANDS DOWN, laundry!!! Ugh – I honestly think I’m allergic to folding!
7. Behavioral trait you hope your children don’t inherit from you?
I worry about EVERYTHING!!! I honestly hate that about myself and hope my kids don’t inherit that from me, as it is awful!
8. The phrase you’ve said to the kids more than any other at home is…
I think it’s “I love being your Mommy”, but I just asked Alexis and she said, “yes, that AND, ‘alright guys, let’s clean up, Daddy’s on his way home.’” LOL – she’s probably right ;o)
9. Favorite kids’ movie?
I really loved Brave; it’s great for the whole family, but especially sweet for a mother-daughter date night.
10. Household appliance you couldn’t live without?
A bottle opener. Wait…does that count as an appliance? ;o)
11. Funniest thing Alexis or Grant have ever said to you?
It’s a tie between, Alexis – “Mommy, everyday is kind of like a weekend for you isn’t it? You know, because you don’t have a job.” and Grant – “Mommy, I just fell and hurt my bumm…please can you kiss it?!”
12. Favorite Charlotte Smarty Pants blog?
“How do we teach our kids to respect the disabled” by Cheryl Perry. I read it, then re-read it…all the while tears streaming down my face. I must have forwarded that entry about a dozen times. Such a beautiful piece on so many levels, and her relationship with her sister reminds me so much of my own sister and I – it made me miss her so much it literally hurt my chest.
13. Guilty pleasure?
I’m obsessed with cookbooks! I read them as though they were novels – cover.to.cover! I guarantee there are at least 2 on my nightstand right now, along with a cooking magazine or two.
