Our family has been involved in Soccer Shots for years now, but not until this winter had we experienced what it’s like to do Soccer Shots through our preschool. All I have to say is win-win!!!!
We have done the classic sessions on Saturdays where my husband and I would bring our folding chairs to Latta Park, sip coffee and watch our three boys play soccer for the 30-minute sessions. Those have been great. But the convenience of having Soccer Shots available after preschool is off the charts. I feel so lucky First Presbyterian started offering this program again after a hiatus of several years.
The preschool assigns a teacher to take the children from their classrooms out to the front lawn and they go right into Soccer Shots. The parents don’t even have to show up until the end of the 30-minute session. I couldn’t resist catching a few minutes toward the end at the least, even if it distracted my 4-year-old twin boys a bit when mama showed up.
Here are four big advantages to after-school Soccer Shots:
1. Getting 45 more minutes at the end of the preschool day to run errands and get work done is amazing, especially knowing what great hands your kids are in with Soccer Shots. Even showing up for the final 10 minutes of the program gives you a chance to get more done and still see your kiddos in action.
2. They get to do Soccer Shots with their buddies, something you can’t always guarantee when signing up for weekend venues. It’s always fun to have familiar faces on the field without parents having to bend over backwards to make it happen.
3. They get their after-school wiggles out. Especially as a boy mom, I love having an easy way my sons can stretch their legs and get some wiggles out at the end of the preschool day. Normally I have to let them loose on the backyard for a while after school just to get their last burst of energy out. But after Soccer Shots we can go straight into “quiet time” when we get home, knowing they’ve already gotten great exercise during Soccer Shots.
4. The after-school programs are the same patented Soccer Shots programs that you know and love, and Soccer Shots uses its same team of talented coaches. Our boys could not get enough of “Coach Adam” this winter. He had them in stitches every Tuesday, when he would tell them no giggling was allowed as he sung the Paw Patrol theme song, strumming on his “guitar” made of a folded-up soccer goal. Soccer Shots coaches always have such a magical way of making learning soccer fun.
Spring registration is going on now, if you want to check to see if your preschool is offering the program. Some of the regulars are: Carmel Presbyterian Weekday School, Covenant Presbyterian, Forest Hill, Huntersville UMC, Myers Park Baptist, Peace Preschool, Sharon Baptist, and more. I’ve already signed my twins up for another spring session at First Presbyterian!
Not surprisingly, the preschool slots fill up fast – not to mention ALL of Soccer Shots locations around the city. So if you’ve missed out on spring registration there’s always Soccer Shots Summer Camp.
Soccer Shots Charlotte is hosting 11 weeks of camps, beginning on June 13th. They will consist of Soccer Shots games, skills, activities as well as crafts, snack time, free-play, and lots of fun. Full day camps will have a lunch break as well. Soccer Shots is offering half day options for children ages 3-5 and full day options for children ages 6-8 years old.
When: Half day camps (ages 3-5) go either from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Full day (ages 6-8) is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: All the camps will be held at the Total Soccer Charlotte indoor field (8850 Monroe Rd. Suite 400, Charlotte, NC 28212) and it’s air conditioned.
How much: The half day camp is $185. Full day camp is $300.
