I was absolutely amazed when I read an article about Jessica Alba kissing her kids on the mouth. She stated in a Redbook article that she was surprised to learn there are parents out there that don’t kiss their kids on the mouths – “Really? Why?!” she exclaimed. “It’s your baby. People allow dogs to lick at their mouths.” Furthermore, I found another article ripping Harry Connick, Jr. for doing the same thing.
I didn’t realize that we went back to middle school and made big deal about kissing on the lips. I kiss my kids on the lips. And their cheeks. And their feet. And (gasp!) their hands. I love kissing my kids and they love the affection. The great thing is that they know how much we love them and since my toddler and baby can’t quite comprehend what the words “I love you” means, we show them by giving kisses, hugs, tickling, rough-housing, etc.
Why do we have to ridicule people for showing affection to their own children? We should be applauding them for being great parents that show their children they love them.

Ummm, no and my parents were not mouth kissers. No kissing on the lips.
Yes, yes, yes!
Yes I do! I have 2 litlte girls and one day they will not want me to even hold their hand!
I kiss my kids on the mouth…. I kiss my parents on the mouth, I even kiss my sister on the mouth!
I love these people! It’s not weird, it’s love.
I didn’t plan to, but my kids started doing it to me and would not let me turn my face. I presume it is because they saw Daddy and I kiss that way. I still kiss my baby on the cheek instead of on the mouth, but he will probably kiss me on the mouth when he is older the same way my older ones do. I imagine the 5 year old will stop soon. 🙂 I don’t turn away kisses from my kids, regardless of where they land!
I’ll kiss my 9 year old anywhere he will let me, but mostly that’s about 2 feet from his face. My 6 year old used to grab my face and tilt his head like he was going in for a movie star kiss! So sweet. Kiss him with big wet ones on the lips!!! Smooch!
I absolutely do! My husband thinks it’s slightly inappropriate (she’s three). He also is the one that let’s his dog lick his entire face and head!!! At least my child wasn’t just nosing through the garbage and eating “dessert” in the backyard! Kiss on!!!!!
We have always kissed our kids on the lips. When we go our
Separate ways in the morning, when we say goodnight, and
Any time in between. Life is way to short to not
Show our kids how much we love them. I am so glad
My daughter who is 13, and my son who is 10
Still love to cuddle and give me a kiss.
Absolutely – for as long as they will let me!
We are. I never thought twice about it.
I love Amity’s comments!! and agree!
I say kiss ’em anywhere you can. Because it’s a sad day when they don’t want you to kiss in public or hold their hand. Boo:-(
