To me, breakfast isn’t a meal, it’s an experience! Saturday morning, jeans and a vintage tee, family still sleepy-eyed, and all ready for BREAKFAST! Every family has its personal favorite place to nosh on what is the “most important meal of the day”, and mine is a kitschy, retro, funky, and fabulous place called Zada Jane’s Corner Cafe. Don’t live near this Elizabeth/Plaza Midwood neighborhood gem? I don’t care, you MUST make the mecca to this breakfast haven no matter where you reside!
A wait? Oh yes, there will be a wait, but that is the beauty of Zada Janes! Order a cup of joe (served in different mugs with catchy sayings, places, and people) and challenge the family to a bean bag toss competition or a shuffle board dual. The kids will be truly disappointed when they finally call your name for a table. Will it be worth the wait? Ah, in a word, YES! Pick from organic meats, locally grown veggies, biscuits so good they will make you cry, farm fresh eggs, and the most creative menu I’ve ever seen. This place deserves respect! Waitresses zip by with retro aprons and smiles that make you want to invite them to sit down and join you; and they remember you! After just one visit we had a sweet waitress remember that my daughter ordered chocolate chip pancakes. They aren’t waitresses, they are culinary fairies!
The menu is full of choices, tired of bacon and sausage try chorizo! Eggs aren’t just called eggs, they are referred to as “happy eggs”. French toast with amaretto butter, scrambled eggs with goat cheese and roasted garlic. Get creative and try the Bunny Rancheros with guacamole and Grateful Growers sausage, black beans, flour tortillas, all topped with poached eggs. Sure you can have traditional home fries (if you consider traditional to have fresh chopped herbs) but why not try sweet potato browns? It’s breakfast kicked up into high gear. Someone back in the kitchen deserves a hug. Seriously, whoever you are, I love you . . .
Run, don’t walk to Zada Jane’s Corner Cafe and join what I swear is a culinary breakfast cult. Sit with college students that might not have gone to sleep the night before, local artists living in Elizabeth, families you know from the park, and new friends alike. To quote Zada Jane’s motto, “it’s all good, ya’ll,” and I couldn’t agree more!

one of our favorite places no matter the meal!
It's in Plaza Midwood — NOT Elizabeth.
It is SO yummy! I wish we lived closer!!!
I was really excited to try this place, and I must say I was very disappointed! Mostly because of the service- we had a terrible server with a terrible attitude, and it took way too long to get our food. Once it came I was underwhelmed. The food was OK, but we definitely won't be going back b/c of the service and the unpleasant waitress!
