Hello there Smarties! Are you ready for the holiday weekend? That’s right it is MLK weekend and the city is bracing for a heat wave, the high 40’s! I don’t think my frozen bones can handle it. There is an awesome show this weekend that is sure to excite you and the kiddo’s, Black Light Magic. My daughter saw this yesterday and LOVED it. Call for tickets today, two shows have already sold out! Many of our other favorites,Daniel Stowe, The Nature Museum and Parks & Rec. all have very Smarty events for the family. So get out and enjoy!

Charlotte’s premier mime ensemble Omimeo and special guest artists present visual artistry, dazzling lighting and special effects. Included in this year’s performance is the award-winning “Ping Pong Matrix” plus a few extra surprises. Omimeo creates a one-of-a-kind theatrical event, weaving the techniques of black light illusions with the comedy and mystery of mime. Recommended for elementary and middle school ages. Cost is $12-$14.

“Orchids in the Trees” offers visitors a chance to see hundreds of rare varieties from the intriguing bulbophyllums to the colorful cattleyas. Expert growers will be selling orchids from all over the world. N.C. Piedmont Orchid Society members will answer questions about these plants including how to grow, care and nurture orchids at home. Cost is $10 adults, $5 ages 4-12, free under 4.
