Two and done and now an attic FULL of baby stuff … I honestly think I could open my own Babies R Us up there! But like any mom, I’ve found it extremely hard to part with anything just yet. Even though it is not in our plans to have another baby, those things still hold a sentimental value for me…that is until I go to pull the attic stairs down and it all comes falling down on top of me! Seriously – you can’t even move up there with all the things that my baby-turned-one-year-old has already outgrown. My husband on the other hand, wants it out! He wants “attic mobility” once again. So here I am faced with “cleaning house” and wondering just what I should do with all this stuff, a lot of which is still in great condition.
While I think Goodwill is a great organization to donate items to, I can’t bring myself to just give it all away. And I am not one for garage sales…I remember the WEEKS my mom used to spend preparing for one every summer when I was growing up and I just frankly don’t have the time! I’ve never consigned anything, as this is my first major attempt to rid ourselves of items we don’t think we’ll need again, so I feel like I’d need “consignment 101” lessons before entering that arena. And I’ve never eBayed anything in my life. So all this got me thinking…you know, we have this GREAT resource right here at our fingertips – literally, just a click away – a little thing called Smart E-place! It’s a Craig’s List kind of place (think Craig’s wife) to buy or sell great stuff from trusted Charlotte moms.
Calling All Smarties!
We’ve designated July as Yard Sale month – Smarty style! I’m sure we all have a few items that have run their course with your family but are ready to move on to a new, welcoming home – so here’s what we’re going to do. All through the month of July, post your items to Smart E-place for sale and check back frequently for new listings. You can even use the “wanted” section to advertise things you might be looking for! The process is simple:
* If you’ve never listed anything, you will need to register.
* Once registered, list as many items if you want.
* Pictures are key – you can add up to 3 pictures per listing. Size cannot exceed 3M each. (BTW – check out the cute bedding I listed out there!)
* When you’ve completed your listing, you’ll be asked to confirm everything. Your address will default here, however it will not show up in the actual listing. If you’d feel better, you can change it to be your neighborhood or something even more generic. Either way, it should not show up in the actual posting.
* All listings are FREE. The default listing duration is 10 days, however you can add 10 more days by clicking “upgrade” on your listing. Again – there is no charge for this.
This site will be most successful if we ALL use it! Think about what a phenomenal resource this will be!! So post your stuff today and happy shopping!!

Hey Smarties! We're super excited about this Smarty Yard Sale! Consider this your pre-consignment sale exercise! We have had this FREE service available since last summer and it has been underutilized. I see people using it some, but for it to be most effective, we Smarties should list here first, then try Craig's List. I would trust a Smarty over a Craig's Lister 10 times over! So let's use this great FREE resource – some of my stuff is up but I'm still scrambling around my house to find more. Tag, you're it!
