There is a new place for the farm experience in town – Darby Acres Farm. My kids love it, I love it and the folks that run it, love what they do. Makes for a great day on the farm!
Darby Acres is a short drive from town, right off 16 before you get to 485. As you drive down the gravel road, do not be afraid of the signs, you are in the right place. As you reach the end of the road, drive through the gates, you will be greeted by a row of antique John Deere tractors. If you have a child that loves tractors, this will be paradise. Continue up the drive until you see the small tent. Park and get ready for the adventure to begin.
Admission is $3, if you would like a pony ride (hand led), that is an additional $5, a pony ride(hand led) with trot added in is $7 or a Super Pony ride (ride a 2300lb Belgian Draft horse) is $8. Take a short walk and you will be greeted by a menagrie of animals that will fascinate and entertain, just keep your fingers away from their mouths!!
There are goats, donkeys, llamas, alpacas, horses, minature pony, sheep, zebu, chickens, pot-bellied pigs, turkeys, rabbits, and more. The best part, most of them are rescues. The folks who run the farm, Jen and Jeanne are more than helpful. They will share the animals names, stories and will be happy to call Otis, the best looking, friendliest pot-bellied pig over for a little rub down. At any point, a goat will jump the fence to get some extra attention, a rooster will crow or a bunny that decided it didn’t like the caged life will go hopping by. It’s all part of a day on the farm.
Head up to the bunny pen and let the kiddos love on the bunnys hopping around and then you can visit the hedge hog, chinchillas and guinea pigs.
You can bring a picnic lunch, there are tables near the play set and trampoline, which are the perfect way to let the kids get some energy out before heading home. Before you leave make sure you check out the classic Chevy car collection, antique farm tools and the party area. This is one farm that you do not want to miss!

We may go here tomorrow! Thanks for posting.
Oh we are in!! Love a good Farm Visit.
Darby Farm is a gem in the city limits. Off 485 at exit 16 it’s only 30 minutes from Ballentyne area. Fun is everywhere you look. Animals close enough to pet, bunnies to hug, picnic tables (bring lunch) and a huge sand play area with swings and toys. Your kids will not want to leave and will beg to go back. Best $3 you can spend in Charlotte.
