Braids and feathers are all the rage this fall on the tween circuit. When I was a tween, feathers were in for sure but they were woven into ribbon barrettes. These days feathers are attached to the hair almost in the same fashion as hair extensions. Of course this generation is stepping it up ten notches!
We turned to our Smarty friends at Salon 42 (yup, Jason & Cara Viers’ digs in Dilworth:-) to give us the real scoop on feathers. Ansley was dying to get feathers this summer and we caved right before school started. We went to a children’s salon, not naming names, but they used GYNORMOUS beads to attach the feathers. This seemed a little excessive and didn’t work really well in the hair. When we got feathers at Salon 42, these were attached by a tiny clamp and they really look groovy and almost natural, if you can consider lime green and blue natural! The feathers really look cool, I have to admit. I’m in on this trend and so is all of tween Charlotte! Cost is $15/feather – includes time to attach properly. We’re going to give a special shout out to Crystal at Salon 42, my girls LOVED her!
Next up are Tom’s Shoes. These are HUGE at our school. I personally love the “One-for-one” give-back feature that Tom’s does. For every pair of shoes purchased, they give a pair to a child in need. We need more businesses hopping on this bandwagon. Tom’s come in all flavors, I think their website has the biggest selection, locally, Nordstrom’s is a close second. Smarty tip: youth size 5 is the same as a women’s size 8 at a much cheaper price tag, $14 cheaper to be exact.
Last but certainly not least are these fun nautical sailor bracelets popping up everywhere. Boys seem to dig the traditional woven off white version. For girls, the more color the better. You can find these at Toys & Co in Cotswold for $3.99 for these large, and $2.99 for smaller versions. They make for great birthday gift toppers and B/F/F bracelets.
