Did you know? September is Library Card Sign-up Month!
Every year, we dedicate this month to remind customers, parents, caregivers and students that a library card is an incredible gift for you and your loved ones. Signing up for a card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning. A library card includes many benefits such as books, movies, music, electronic resources, and more. Best of all, it’s completely free!
During the Library’s phased re-opening operations, in person sign-ups are unavailable. However, customers can gain instant access with a virtual card at cmlibrary.org/getacard. If you run into any hiccups during sign-up, there is an “Ask a Librarian” chat function on our website to help Monday -Thursday 9 a.m.-8 p.m., and Friday-Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
In celebration of Library Card Sign-up Month, we have hand selected four children’s picture books that celebrate libraries and reading.
Groovy! Everyone’s favorite cat just got his very first library card. He is ready to explore the books in the library and uses his imagination to visit many places from a deep dark forest to the Atlantic Ocean.
Do you like books? Are you a fan of donuts? If you answered yes, then you will love this silly story of noisy monsters running amok in the library. They finally settle down after filling their bellies and listening to the librarian read stories at storytime.
Lola at the Library By Anna McQuinn
Every Tuesday, Lola and her mom visit the library. She packs up her bag with books from last week’s visit and of course, she can’t forget her library card. Follow Lola as she walks to the library, attends storytime, checks out new books and more.
Hog LOVES books. He takes them from bookstores and libraries from all around the city. But he has a big problem… he never learned to read! When a librarian teaches him, he is thrilled and begins to love books even more.
