Celebrate 50 with Beech Mountain
There’s a HUGE birthday this winter in the North Carolina mountains. Our favorite ski resort, Beech Mountain Resort marks 50 years of skiing on the highest elevation slopes in eastern America. The resort debuted in the winter of 1967-68 just as skiing was being developed in the South. It was the only North Carolina resort built around an alpine village, and has become of CSP’s favorite ski destination.
Beech Mountain is the perfect day or weekend trip for families to ski, snowboard, ice skate or more. Click here to read more about Beech Mountain and its Charlotte connection.
To celebrate its 50th birthday, Beech Mountain Resort is offering season-long throwback pricing for night sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tuesdays are ladies’ nights with $9 lift tickets – the same price as opening day. Wednesdays are men’s nights with $9 tickets and Thursdays are couples’ nights featuring a first ticket for $16 and a second ticket for just $8.
The resort is also hosting a special celebration Jan. 25-28 featuring live music, fireworks, craft beer, trivia and the Great Cardboard Box Derby, a beloved annual tradition. Festivities kick off Thursday evening, Jan. 25, with Beech Mountain-themed trivia at the resort’s Beech Tree Bar and Grille. High Standards, a tribute band from Boone, will set the tone for the weekend with hits from the 1960s at the Famous Brick Oven Pizzeria in town. Friday night, The Storks bring their blend of reggae-style tunes from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, to Beech Mountain Brewing Co. The brewery will feature beers from High Country neighbor Appalachian Mountain Brewery as part of a special tap takeover.
On Saturday at 3 p.m., Foothills Oompah Band hits the stage at Beech Tree Bar and Grille. The band’s performance honors the legacy of Austrian ski instructors who came to the resort in the late 1960s to teach lessons and helped shape the culture of the resort. There will also be a stein holding contest Saturday afternoon, and The Storks will follow the Foothills Oompah Band with a second weekend performance. At 10:30 p.m. Saturday, fireworks will light up the sky over Beech Mountain, followed by a late-night DJ who will keep the party going.
New at Beech Mountain
New this winter is a streamlined check-in process in which customers purchase lift tickets and rental equipment at a central location, then go straight through the fitting process and are ready to hit the slopes in less time. Also new this winter is the ability to buy multi-day tickets and multi-day rentals to avoid repeating the same process each day.
