Swim team is over, thank the Lord above. Now what?
Aside from camps and the family beach vacation we already took, we have settled our behinds into summer.
Team Bowman loves a lazy summer – playing outside, catching lightning bugs, camping in the backyard, and roasting marshmallows more times in a week than anyone should. (shouldn’t it be marshmEllows? stupid spellcheck.)
We’ve added some new tricks to our outside fun to keep our kids (and us) interested.
Here are some must haves in our book. They have made our summer evenings super fun and kept our kids (and their buddies) occupied.
Headlamps
We have a pile of these and the kids like to wear them in the backyard after it gets dark. My husband got ours at Harbor Freight here in Charlotte. They have all kinds of nifty kid stuff – like headlamps, kid flashlights, balsa wood kits for making an airplane/dinosaur/insect, etc. – for super cheap – like $1-$5.
Trac-ball
Y’all have GOT to get some Trac-ball in your life. My husband played it as a kid and he has now introduced it to our kids. Our kids will play Trac-ball for hours. We even took it to the beach and everyone loved it. Buy 2 sets because when you have other kids over then 4 can play at once.
Badminton
If you don’t have enough room then don’t even bother with the net. Sometimes we don’t even use the net. The 4 of us will spread out into a circle and just hit it back and forth to each other to see how long we can keep the shuttlecock up in the air. Badminton is like bowling – anyone can do it. (I so badly want badminton to be spelled ‘badmitten’.)
