Smarties, I can’t wait for you to meet our newest partner, Dr. Alexis Sage with Mobile Equine and Housecall Service. I ADORE this woman!! I met Dr. Sage a year and a half ago when we “won” our dog, Henry, at our school fundraiser. Dr. Sage had donated her services to support our school and I’ve been lucky enough to have her take care of our Henry from that day forward.
When Dr. Sage first walked through my front door, I knew we’d be fast friends. She is magical with her animals, talks a hundred miles an hour and you find yourself wanting her to pull up a chair and stay for a while. Her stories are fascinating, her knowledge of animals is endless and my first question for her was – do you take cats? When she told me yes, I was forever hooked.
In addition to our dog (featured left), we have two HUGE Main Coon cats (below), who literally scratch my eyeballs out when it’s the day for their annual vet check-up. Well guess what? I don’t have to do that ever again. Dr. Sage comes to my house, and does the exam there, in the comfort of my animals’ home. The cats are so much happier and Henry the dog thinks Dr. Sage is one of his best friends. She does our routine physicals, vaccinations, flea/tick maintenance – basically, all the stuff that you really hate to go to the vet for. Because let’s face it, the vet trip is no easy feat for any animal owner, why not let the provider come to you? Added bonus – her rates are cheaper, that’s right CHEAPER, because she has no overhead. So we get the convenience factor and she gets the no-overhead factor. It’s a win/win for everyone!
Let me be clear, I’m not saying ditch your current veterinarian, seriously, one of my good buds is our official veterinarian for all the big stuff. Pets who require further diagnostics, radiographs, surgery or hospitalization are referred to full-service hospitals with whom Dr. Sage has a long standing professional relationship (or you stick with who you currently work with). Dr. Sage’s role is to come to your home for your convenience and your pet’s overall well-being. One service Dr. Sage offers is coming to your home to put your animal down. We all dread this day, but as pet owners, we know that one day it will be inevitable. One of the most loving things you can do for your animal is to help him have a peaceful and comfortable end to his life. The home setting makes this difficult step less stressful for both you and your pet. Dr. Sage provides gentle and compassionate assistance. I know that when that day comes, Dr. Sage will be there for me and my babies and she loves them just as much as I do.

Another thing I love about Dr. Sage is her quick availability and response time. She works directly from her cell phone, so she is accessible. One time, my Henry threw up something funky and I just snapped a pic and texted Dr. Sage: “is this something I need to go to the other vet for?” Turns out, he had eaten grubs and got some kind of crazy worm that vets dream about seeing! She dropped off a prescription and he was cured. Easy peezy!
