I have always been a Pampers mom. They never failed me on Zoe, so I never thought to switch with Annie. But last month I was in Costco and finding new ways to save money was on my mind. I came across the Costco diaper section and contiplated the switch. They were so much more affordable, and I have friend who was using them, so I went for it. I bought the Kirkland Signature Premium Diapers, 184 for $39.99 (Costco doesn’t sell Pampers, so buying them at a wholesale price is not an option for me, see previous article on best prices on diapers for Pampers pricing).
I got home and filled in my diaper basket with these new diapers. The first thing that I had to get used to was the feel. They are not as soft as Pampers and they don’t have the scent of Pampers, but Costco diapers have similar tabs as Pampers that are resealable and a good fit.
For the first week – I was sold. Everything was going great. Then she woke up with wet pajamas one morning. I was hoping that this was an isolated experience, maybe she drank more than normal before bedtime. But it happened again and then again.
So I am torn, I love the savings of this option and with 184 in a box, weekly diapers runs have disappeared. But having to deal with leaking diapers in the morning is a pain, and I hate for Annie to be uncomfortable and wet. So, I am going to head out today and buy my trusted Pampers again for nighttime only. I still have half a box left of the Costco diapers…and since I have not had any problems during the day (when I change her diaper more frequently), I am going to try a mix…Costco during the day and Pampers at night. I hope it will satisfy both my goals, keeping my costs down and Annie dry!
Has anyone else gone this route with diapers that they want to share? We would love to hear from you!

Pampers only work for me with my kids (girls and a boy). I do agree and am also trying to cut costs where I can, but when it comes to my kids comfort, it is worth the extra $5-10. Kirkland brand products aren’t sensitive and the wipes make both my kids rash. It is a tough call, but as my grandfather always said, “cheapest isn’t always the most economical. “Good Luck.
Yea, I agree. It’s not worth the few extra $$ to save. I’d rather have something dependable and of quality. If they were free then that’s a diff. story.
I also tried the cheap diapers during the day and Pampers at night, but eventually went back to all Pampers. I just wait to find them on sale and buy as many as I can. Also, Pampers has a rewards program for buying diapers and wipes (see the Pampers website).
I have 2.5 year old twins, and I actually really like the Kirkland diapers, and haven’t ever had a problem with them. Mine are still in diapers at night, one is a size 5 and she wears the Kirkland, the other wears a size 7 in Pampers (Kirkland stops at size 5,) and those cost a fortune! Now, I didn’t catch on to Costco diapers until they were about a size 3, so maybe it makes a difference between the toddler sizes vs babies. I also really like the wipes – I have a daughter who has sensitive skin, and these work wonderfully! I know some moms prefer to use the Huggies Overnights for nighttime – not sure of the cost vs Pampers, though.
Now that my youngest is nearly finished with diapers, I will be happy to drop that expense. However, I have been very pleased with the BJ’s brand of diapers, Berekley and Jenson and their soft sensative wipes (which I tear in half to make them last longer.)The diapers cost about 24 bucks for 104 size 6. And both of my children have very sensative bottoms and these diapers worked well. Any time you can save money these days is great!
you can go to Food Lion and buy diaper doublers. They look like big maxi pads that go inside the diaper, this was the only way to get our girls through the night with out leaking. It didn’t matter the brand, we were notrious for leaks. These saved the day. I think you get 50 for just a few dollars. Best of luck!
I am loyal to Pampers, we've tried other brands and have just found that Pampers work best for us. We are BJ members (since it's the closest to us) and fortunately they sell Pampers in bulk there, so we save on our preferred brand! I also enter all my wipes & diaper codes in Pamper's Gift to Grow program, so another incentive to stay loyal! One last note…Pampers just redesigned their website as of this morning (I think) and it looks a lot better & a bit easier to navigate thru.
I used only Pampers for my older two, but with the twins, I have also looked for ways to save money. I had tried Luvs, and others before and did not like them. So I finally tried the Kirklands and also the Target brand on recommendation from from friends. They leak sometimes at night, but not often, so I try to buy Pampers on sale for use at bedtime and keep the others for day use. We are in the potty training stages and I am so exicted!! We have had a child in diapers for the last 7 years!!! I won't know what to do once I don't have to change diapers anymore.Jennifer HoyleMommy to Alexis, AJ, Carson & Dylan
Goodness, I just don’t get all of the accolades for Pampers. I have tried them all, and while Pampers are good, they don’t seem to be any better than Huggies or Kirkland, and I have both a boy and a girl. We have the same nighttime issue. Just use a nighttime diaper, plastic pants over that and wash the pajamas more frequently. I have been quite happy with Kirkland diapers, but do prefer the Huggies wipes, both available at Costco.
We’ve had the best luck with Pampers after trying Huggies and Kirkland brands. Best bet is to buy Pampers diapers at BJs since they also accept manufacturer coupons so you can save more and won’t feel guilty spending the extra $$$. Sometimes, Diapers.com has specials and they also accept manufacturer coupons for the next purchase.
Parents Choice made by Wal-Mart! I’m hooked!
I also love Pampers and used them for both my girls. Tried Kirkland & babies r us on recommendations and leaks galore! I found that once the girls get to a size 3 though that Huggies supremes actually work even better than pampers! Not much savings though as they don't sell the supreme brand at any of the wholsale clubs!
I found that Pampers Cruisers worked best for my girls and Huggies Supreme work best for boys. Kinda bizarro, I know! I did do exactly what Jenny does though – cheap diapers during the day (I even used Target, Walgreens, whatever was on sale and they worked fine) and good ones at night. I found that boys tend to leak way more at night than girls. So annoying! I’m happy to report that my boys are pretty much potty-trained – WAHOO! We’re still in dipes at night though – which is fine by me!
Well, this is off subject a little-I personally love 7th Generation. They are not that much more expensive, especially if you buy in bulk from Diapers.com (I love this site-no shipping on big orders….). Anyway, we have never had a leak with 7th Gen. in 16 months and they are better for the environment. (However, I did love some Pampers Swaddlers before we made the switch.) We also use cloth which I absolutely love, buy I know they are not for everyone.
We were Pampers until my daughter was about 3 months, and have been Huggies Snug N Dry ever since- no others work as well for us. I use my coupons, Costco and BJ memberships and online deals, and feel OK about the cost…
Huggies always work for us and I can get them at Costco. I have never liked Pampers, they give my kids a terrible diaper rash. My son leaks all the time at night and I found putting the next size up on at night works better than anything. Maybe I’ll try Kirkland next time. I think diapers are diapers for the most part.
My system is to buy the Babies r Us brand regular not supreme for the day and Pampers at night or special occasions. I usually have them wear a size up in teh night-time Pampers also I buy in bulk at Babies r Us when they have the coupons or are on sale, and I always use the $1.50 off Pampers manufacturers coupon.
Pampers Cruisers during the day for my 17 month daughter and the Huggies Nighttime. I didn’t care for regular Huggies, but the nighttime ones keep her from leaking (so far!).
I really wanted the 7th generation diapers to work! Unfortunately I think they are lacking that "dri-weave" feature that keeps the diaper dry on the inside. We didn't have leaks, but we had diaper rashes for the first time ever. I swear I was changing on a regular basis & not letting things sit too long, my son has really sensitive skin! Pampers just seem to get the job done for us.
Even pampers leaked at night for our daughter once she hit age 18 months! We are a fan of Huggies Nighttime until hopefully one day we are completely potty trained!
I use pampers all the time but my little girl sleeps 12 hours at night so I use huggies overnights and they are great. For some reason she is allergic to the regular huggies but the nightimes are made out of something different so no problems.
I am hooked on Walmart’s “PARENT’S CHOICE” brand. they are so much less money than Pampers and I’ve had no problems with them. Not one leak!
