Last week, I saw MOTHER LOAD at the Stage Door Theater uptown. It was one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time – I laughed for 80 minutes straight! Amy Wilson is an absolute hoot and she will have you in stitches!
MOTHER LOAD is a comical take on suburban moms that successfully ran Off-Broadway and is now in Charlotte until Oct 26. I could relate to every single aspect of Amy Willson’s (writer/performer) life as she draws from her own experiences as a mother of three under age five (sounds like my life if you add a pair of oops twins!). She starts off with conception of a child from taking your temperature during ovulation to attacking your hubby for 8 nights straight! She then moves on to finding your first mommy friend, all of the ridiculous must-have baby products, catered birthday parties, the preschool interview process and so much more. You will leave with a powerful message that we just need to take a step back and enjoy our kids. Before we know it, they’ll all be grown up and we will want these years back. I try to remind myself of this every time the twins tear down my window treatments!
Stage Door Theater is brand new, located at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in the Bank of America Corporate Center (130 N. Tryon St.), on the College Street side of the Center. Look for the glass doors on College Street near the corner of 5th Street. Smarty tip: You can enjoy your cocktails while you watch the play – it just doesn’t get any better! For tickets and more information on the show, call 704.372.1000. Charlotte Smarty Pants readers can save on tickets with this link: www.blumenthalcenter.org/moms.
MOTHER LOAD is a must-see for all Charlotte moms – absolutely hysterical!!

Thanks to Charlotte, Smarty Pants, i saw the play Friday night. My husband went with me and it spurred some good conversation for us! It’s not just for you and your girlfriends!
Good to know, I was wondering if it would be something I could take the hubby to, or was strictly a girls night out thing!
This would be great to take your hubby to. It was very funny and is a great opportunity for him to find humor and understanding of “mommy stuff”.
