Smarty Scoop on Weekend Activities: 9/19-9/21

This is a great weekend in Charlotte. One of my favorite Charlotte traditions is this weekend, Festival in the Park and a new tradition I hope you will all support, Touch a Truck. This is a great family day out, your kids will love being up close and personal with every vehicle they can imagine and it benefits a great cause. There are two consignment sales for all of us being budget aware and several other events awesome events going on for the family. Something for everyone this weekend. Enjoy!

Touch a Truck Festival
North Mecklenburg Park, Huntersville
September 21, 11:00am-2:00pm
This is the second year for this event, which brings together a collection of exciting vehicles for children to climb in and explore up close. Vehicles scheduled include a NASCAR vehicle, a fire truck, garbage trucks, construction vehicles and more. $3 donation per person, kids under 1 are free. All proceeds benefit Addi’s Cure (50% of the proceeds that are raised go directly to research at Duke Medical Hospital, specifically for lung cancer. The remaining 50% goes into an interest account that will be swept each year and goes to research as the account grows. Addi’s Cure maintains no fees, no administrative costs, and no salaries.)

Fall/Winter Children & Teen Consignment Sale

Fall/Winter clothes and shoes – newborn to junior sizes. Maternity items, baby equipment, toys, furniture, books, games, videos, and much more. Free Admission/Cash Only/No Strollers or Carts Allowed in Sales Area.

Festival in the Park

This fun-filled event is designed to promote and stimulate interest in the arts and includes face painting, entertainers, food, arts and crafts, and more.

Charlotte Cookies for Kids’ Cancer Bake Sale
September 20, 4:00pm-7:00pm
1623 Jameston Drive, Charlotte
This weekend is Festival in the Park at Freedom Park. Go and enjoy the fun, then head over to 1623 Jameston Drive and refuel on bake sale items. All proceeds go to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer. The sale will be both Saturday and Sunday!

Parent’s Night Out

Parents occasionally need a break and we are here to provide a safe, yet fun program for your children. We will have refreshments, board game challenge, and watch a PG movie. Ages 6-16. Cost is $10 per child.

St. Ann’s Carnival
St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 3635 Park Road

The anticipation and excitement of rides, games and festival cooking and crafts comes to St. Ann’s parish again this fall. Offering bingo, face painting, bake sales, dancing, arts & crafts, and a $ 1,000 cash prize raffle. Cost is free.

That’s why all of our books embrace who she is today and encourage her to “follow her inner star” to see what she may become tomorrow. On Saturday, September 20th, American Girl will sponsor a special event in all U.S. Michaels stores from 10:00am-2:00pm. FREE!

Free To Dance
NC Dance Theatre Studios and Spirit Square

Do you love watching dance shows on TV and want to try some of the moves? Or maybe you studied dance when you were younger and want to try dancing again. September 22 through 27, you are FREE to Dance at NC Dance Theatre School of Dance. You can try any (or all) classes in the Teen/Adult Division for FREE.
Classes are appropriate for ages 13 and up and for both males and females. All ability levels welcomed! Signing up for classes in advance guarantees you a space! Drop-ins are welcome, but we encourage you to sign up.
