Today we present Southern Tide!

Southern Tide was founded in 2005 by then 23-year-old Allen Stephenson, who traveled to Italy and became inspired by some of the most beautiful elements in the world. From historical architecture and couture clothing to high-performance sports cars, he noticed common threads – exceptional craftsmanship, clean lines, fine quality and classic design.

This inspiration led Allen to create Southern Tide. In designing his first piece, he enabled the best in design, balance, harmony and quality the space to complement each other, resulting in what many regard as the most comfortable polo shirt in the world – the Skipjack polo, which has become insanely popular on college campuses, particularly in the South, and now they have a collegiate line.

Last summer I stumbled upon Gretchen Scott boutiques on my two vacations, first in the Hamptons and then in Florida. Come to find out, these are the only two locations in the country that have a Gretchen Scott boutique – and both were in my summer travels halfway across the country. It was serendipity and I was smitten.

I fell in love with Gretchen’s tunics at first sight and have grown my collection all year. The bright contrasting patterns are the perfect accompaniment to my favorite jeans ever, my white jeans. And I’m still wearing them way past Labor Day, read this post on how we have officially been set free of white jean jail.

I discovered Elizabeth McKay this summer while shopping in one of my favorite boutiques, Cottage Chic on East Boulevard. As I’ve gotten to know Elizabeth’s style and story, I learned that she originally hails from NC, which is why we love her even more! Her designs are full of color, bold prints and sophistication. I am drawn to the classic Jackie-O look and the use of ruffles are absolutely stunning. Her fabrics are luxurious and her pieces are timeless. You will want to build this collection for years to come.

Smarties, there’s a new workout in town and it’s AMAZING. Flywheel and FlyBarre – have you been yet?

Flywheel Stadium Cycling is a super high-energy, fast-paced cycling cardio extravaganza. You will leave a sweaty, hot mess, but you’ll be on endorphin overload. Trust me.

I, along with the rest of the Smarty party sisters, have been trying it out over the last couple of weeks and I just have one thing to say: addiction. I can speak for my other Smarties that they are all hooked as well.

I’ve never been a spinner – I am a runner through and through, and the spinning classes at the Y stress me out so much with the get-there-30-minutes-early-to-get-your-pass thing. So I hesitated to hit FlyWheel because I thought it was just another spinning class – I was so wrong.

Run. Walk. Hope.

Lace up your running shoes, Smarty Charlotte, and join thousands for the 17th Annual Hopebuilders 5K Run/Walk presented by Babson Capital. The premier family fundraising event benefiting Levine Children’s Hospital, Hopebuilders welcomes people of all ages and skill levels – many of whom are walking in honor/memory of special children in their lives. All proceeds from the event benefit the areas of greatest need at Levine Children’s Hospital.

This family-friendly event is hosting a new Stroller Roller this year. The Stroller Roller is the first 5K in Charlotte specifically designed for strollers, baby joggers, and even little red wagons. Children riding in strollers receive complimentary registration, so they do not need to be registered. Family and friends who would like to run/walk alongside you should also sign up for the Stroller Roller (even if they are not pushing a stroller).

The Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions 2012 is coming to Time Warner Cable Arena on Friday, October 26, 2012. And guess what, Smarties? We have a Family 4-pack of tickets just for you!

All four of my kids are super excited about this event coming off of a women’s gold medal at the Summer Olympics. My twin boys, who I truly believe could be future Olympians (save that for another blogging day:-), cannot contain themselves! They will be front row and center.

What is the Most Important Step during LASIK?

If you are considering LASIK, you may be wondering what the most important step is during LASIK. You think, “It must be when the doctor aims the laser”, “…must be how they move the laser” or “when they prep my eyes”…

Anyone that knows me knows that I LOVE to cook. I think about it constantly. I scour cookbooks, websites and magazines for recipes all the time. I watch shows like “Chopped” on the Food Network and try to imagine what it would be like to be a contestant. Well recently I got to put my culinary skills to the test.

A few weeks ago I participated in the First Annual Food Lion Frugal Cook off, an event organized by the Salisbury, NC based grocery store chain. They invited influential bloggers from the area and I was lucky enough to be asked to represent Charlotte Smarty Pants.

I had no idea what to expect, no way to prepare. I knew that I would be put on the spot to cook from a set list of ingredients they had on hand. How fun, I mean we do this all the time, right? We get home from running our kids to every different afterschool activity only to find that we have exactly 4 minutes to put dinner together from a fridge full of random ingredients. You would be amazed at what I can do with just rice.

CSP is proud to partner with the 2012 Symetra Classic, a stop on the Symetra Tour – Road to the LPGA! The 2012 Symetra Classic will take place September 10-16, 2012 at the Raintree Country Club in South Charlotte and will bring together a field of 144 women professional golfers from around the world and across the United States. The Symetra Tour – Road to the LPGA is the developmental tour of the LPGA, whose mission is to prepare the very best young professional women golfers for a successful career on the LPGA Tour. Every year, the top 10 Symetra Tour players earn automatic membership to play on the LPGA Tour. The tour includes nearly 30 players with North Carolina ties, as well as many of the stars of the most recent season of the hit Golf Channel show, “Big Break: Atlantis.”
