Central Piedmont student and U.S. Army veteran Breona Pollard wouldn’t be where she is today without financial aid.
“The funding I receive allows me to attend Central Piedmont full time while maintaining my household and raising my three-year-old son, Braylon,” she explains.
As a single mom, Breona’s world is her son. So, when Breona decided she wanted to go back to school to earn a degree, it was important that she chose a college that was convenient, affordable and flexible. Central Piedmont checked every box.
“I didn’t want to be away from Braylon. I wanted to find an institution that would not only allow me to pursue my career goals, but also give me the freedom to be present in my son’s life. Central Piedmont offered both,” she says.
Since enrolling at Central Piedmont in 2017, Breona has immersed herself in the college community. She regularly attends RISE, a leadership series that inspires students to be successful on their academic journey; and utilizes TRiO Student Support Services to receive the academic coaching, tutoring and counseling assistance she needs to stay on track academically.
Breona will graduate from Central Piedmont in May 2019 with an associate degree in Business Administration, Human Resources. After graduation, she plans to attend Catawba College and earn a bachelor’s degree in business through Central Piedmont’s 2+2 Program.
“All mothers want to provide for their children,” adds Breona. “Central Piedmont’s Skyline Run is helping student moms accomplish this goal. The monies raised will help these women create a future for themselves, showing their children that anything is possible with a little help and dedication.”
