Tell us about the concept behind EMERGE
EMERGE started from continued conversations regarding how we can better provide coaching and support to the Charlotte community. Having taught fitness for a combined 20+ years, our experience revealed opportunities to strengthen how an individual defines fitness. We knew we wanted to provide education, but that we also wanted to learn more ourselves. We also knew our fitness community is legit and that with continued collaborations, we could support and grow a community that orients more as a team and less as an individual.
How do your combined years of fitness expertise make EMERGE something really special?
EMERGE was born from the genuine respect and friendship we share with one another. Having rocked the Charlotte fitness scene together for a number of years, we’ve inherently gained a sincere trust and belief in each other’s ability and skill set to offer smart, intentional and motivational workouts. Our backgrounds are diverse and yet the common thread that unites us is our desire to learn, make an impact, and grow within our incredible fitness community.
Is there one type of fitness EMERGE specializes in or do you hit ‘em all?
We routinely offer education in the form of mobility and movement training to demonstrate how to safely and effectively move your body. We also love a good sweat and want you to put this information to practice. The workout itself includes high intensity and low impact exercises, including using various equipment to include sandbags, gliders, resistance bands and jump ropes. We also believe in a proper cool down and conclude each event with a period of yoga/athletic stretch and recovery to quiet our minds, thank our bodies, and respect the work we’ve just put in as we continue our fitness journey as a team.
What can someone expect when they come out for an event?
At present, we offer 2 events each month. One on a Tuesday evening, the second a Saturday morning. The location and times may vary, so staying connected on social media is the best way to be in the know. Every event operates off the same format: Learn.Sweat.Stretch.
Beginning with some form of education (LEARN)- we strive to offer new insight on the proper ways to move and strengthen, as well as information on how to avoid injury. Our workout (SWEAT)- varies, to include interval training and strength circuits that will get your heart rate pumping and your body working. Yoga/athletic stretch and recovery (STRETCH) is always our finisher, offering the the opportunity to simply breathe, connecting the mind and body to the shared space and community that brings us all together.
Tell us about what kind of community you’re looking to create.
First and foremost, an inclusive one. While this word is overused, our efforts to genuinely build such a community will never be something we tire of. We also strive to learn alongside you, as we continue to define what strength and fitness means to the individual.
Can anyone – from newbie to professional fitness pro – come and get something out of it?
Absolutely! With 5 coaches on hand, we’re able to maneuver about the space and offer individualized support to ensure we connect with every individual rocking the workout. Our commitment is to offer options to make the workout accessible and effective despite the fitness level. Additionally, we actively encourage other trainers to attend to offer their own insight and education on how we as fitness leaders can collaborate and educate the Charlotte community. We believe our format and our team is unique, and our passion, commitment and drive is only getting stronger.
What’s on the horizon for the year for you?
More events, more collaborations, new locations and new opportunities to grow our presence, strengthen our relationships and continue to make our mark here in Charlotte. Trust us, we’re only just getting started.
Tell us about your next upcoming event.
Tuesday- January 8th 6:30p at Catawba Brewery- we’ll be offering our consistent learn.sweat.stretch format, with a bit more intensity for those looking to work a little harder and jump start the new year. As always, it’s open to all fitness levels with information and support to dial back or increase the sweat.
Also in January, we’ll be running a charity event – a collaboration with SweatNET and The Forge to offer a a workout and brews with 100% of ticket sales benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Details: Saturday January 19th 11:30a Catawba Brewery.
