3rd annual Brookhaven Run

The 2010 Brookhaven Family Run/Walk for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in honor of Jake Pritchard will be held this Saturday. Event includes a 5K run, 1-mile kids run and 40 and 100-yard kids dashes. Discovery Place KIDS-Huntersville opens to the public on October 23, 2010, offering interactive, learning-based play opportunities for children younger than 8 that focus on the development of the whole child. The exhibits mix areas of work and play and are themed around a small town. Live programming will include story time, a visual art studio and puppet shows. The opening will be Saturday, October 23 at 9:00 a.m., preceded by a ribbon cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m. Cost is $4 (1/2 price all weekend).

Carolina Renaissance Festival

The Renaissance Festival is a 16th century European style art and entertainment festival combining outdoor theater, circus entertainment, arts and crafts marketplace, a jousting tournament, a feast fit for royalty, and much much more. The 17th annual season opens this fall for seven festive weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, from October 9th to November 21st, 2010. This is one of the most interactive entertainment shows ever created with wonderful amusements and antics ongoing all around you! You can sit back and watch, or you can become a part of the action, surrounded by over 500 costumed characters roaming the festival village. The village lanes are full of peasants singing sea-faring songs and street entertainers surprising you with tall tales and tricks, each with a role to play. Cost is $7-$19; free under age 5.

North Carolina State Fair

The North Carolina State Fair is the largest 11-day event in North Carolina, attracting more than 800,000 attendees. The Fair host many diverse musical acts, numerous food vendors, games booths and carnival rides, commercial and agricultural exhibitors. The Fair is managed and produced by the N.C. Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services and is consistently ranked among the top 25 fairs in North America. There are many reasons people from across North Carolina make an annual trip to the N.C. State Fair. Squealing, speed-racing pigs. Giant, blue-ribbon pumpkins. Old-fashioned Ferris wheel rides. And, of course, deep-fried food on a stick.
