If it’s Sunday, somewhere in Charlotte a fence is probably being built. But it’s really so much more than a fence. For dogs who live most of their lives tethered in a back yard, it’s freedom.
For many dog owners in Charlotte, building a fence is simply too expensive. But according to the folks at Coalition to Unchain Dogs, pets who live their lives on chains can become stressed and depressed, as well as suffering from exposure to heat and cold. It isn’t an exaggeration to say that their lives change when the all-volunteer teams builds their fence. Volunteers say they regularly witness dogs become relaxed and playful when released into their “new” backyards.
In addition to building free fences, the coalition works to educate the public and lobbies for legislation that disallows severely restricting or tethering dogs.

Build a fence on Sunday – Come and help build a fence for a chained dog in Charlotte. No experience is needed and all necessary tools are provided. You’ll be doing things like measuring, fastening, cutting, hammering and of course socializing! All are welcome.
