Now that school is almost back in session….are you ready to host a sleepover party to kick off the new school year? Not at the top of your “to do” list, eh? Wasn’t high on mine either.
I dreaded it. I really like order and peace and calmness and quiet and sleep, none of which should ever be mentioned in the same sentence as a sleepover.
The good news? It will be the cheapest birthday party you ever host. And that’s the truth.
Having a bunch of activities was KEY. I could have had a couple of more games and the girls would have continued playing games. They loved having the schedule posted, too!
Prior to the party, I ordered personalized pillowcases from That’s Too Cute Boutique, which is on Etsy.
5:00 PM Arrivals and crafts: make-your-own necklaces, make-your-own bracelets, and decorate your cup (so that each girl could use the same cup all evening)
6:30 PM Dinner/sing happy birthday: Pizza, S’mores cupcakes, fruit
7:30 PM Games and prizes: I went to Marshall’s and got prizes – nail decals, water bottles, etc. – each girl “won” a prize during the games.
> Twister – You know, the board game.
> MASH – Remember this one – Mansion, Apartment, Shack, House? I made a kid-friendly version of this fun “fortune teller” game.
> Question Ball – I got a beach ball from Party City and used a Sharpie to write these questions on it. They tossed the ball to each other and they answered the question that their right thumb landed on.
> Spin the nail polish – They LOVED this. Each girl traces their hand on a piece of paper. Put a selection of nail polish in the center of a table. Each girl selects a color and spins the nail polish bottle.
The person who the cap points to gets to paint one of the nails on their paper. The person who has all 5 painted first wins that round. Then, you can have them trace their foot and do a round with their foot.
> Dance party – My husband got these awesome disco lights that we screwed directly into two of our recessed lighting sockets in our bonus room. AMAZING. Best $8 ever spent.
9:00 PM Movie and popcorn: Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure (Netflix)
The gals went to sleep around midnight and were up around 7 AM. We had waffles and fruit for breakfast and 10:30AM pick-ups. First sleepover party, check.

Great ideas! I’m loving the question ball. Thank you!
Clicked on the MASH and Question Ball links after I had already submitted previous comment. Awesome and I am totally using for my 9 y.o.’s party! Best CSP post of the year!!!
Great pillow cases and party ideas, Susan! And, thanks for taking me down memory lane with MASH. I should be living in a mansion…with 5 kids. Hmmmm.
