“If you haven’t confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life. With confidence, you have won even before you have started. ” – Marcus Garvey
If you’re like us, you’ll do just about anything to fit in an appointment with your stylist. We’ve braved snow, rearranged schedules, and gone on “wait lists” all because we know what it’s like to really need that haircut. We walk into the salon in a baseball cap and walk out with a new look, along with a boost in self-esteem.
That boost is what Soul 139 aims to give those in need by providing free basic hair care services to Charlotte families. Someone served by Soul 139 might be a mom getting ready for a job interview, a child starting school, or someone who is getting a professional haircut for the first time in his life. Soul 139 accomplishes this through unique events held at salons around Charlotte – and it takes hundreds of volunteers to pull it off.
Interested in getting involved? You don’t have to know a thing about cutting hair. Here are a few ideas to get you started. Check out SHARE Charlotte for more.
Social media – Talk about Soul 139’s great work and events, upload photos and videos, and get potential volunteers connected to the right place.
Follow up team – Check in with guests after their haircut, learn how they were impacted, and then keep in touch (about once every 3 months).
Catering – Be a big part of the events, which is where a lot of Soul 139’s work happens!
