My favorite time of year is spring. All of the azaleas are in bloom, the weather is beautiful and the Easter Bunny is coming. The cutest thing I have ever purchased for my children is our wooden Easter Bunny basket. Thanks to my good bud, Sarah, for filling me in on this Charlotte tradition. These hand-painted baskets are PRESH and my kids so look forward to pulling them out and filling them with eggs. So where do you find these baskets? The only place in the country is at the Buttercup in Myers Park located at 343 Providence Road (no website available for this traditional boutique:-) The ladies at the Buttercup have been painting these beautiful baskets for over 30 years. You can order yours until the week before Easter and they will guarantee delivery by Easter. One could be yours for $54 – make sure you tell them Charlotte Smarty Pants sent you! Sounds pricey but so worth the splurge. We plan on keeping ours forever and they will always remind us of our roots in Charlotte.
Do you have any special Easter traditions? Please share.

The Easter Bunny that comes to our house likes to fill the basket with things other than candy…new spring jammies, a bathing suit, flip flops, or new markers. The bunny also fills eggs with stickers, tatoos, mini nail polish, etc. instead of junk candy. The bunny doesn’t deprive my child of the traditional chocolate bunny or jelly beans but it is not a “candy holiday” at my house.
These baskets are a great treasure, I had two baskets almost identical more than 25 years ago for my son and daughter. My daughter calls me today!!! So at the last minute she ask if I could make her 2 baskets like the one she had for Easter for my grandchildren. The children are 18months and 5 months old. She says ASAP for Easter 6 days away! We had so many great memories and both children delighted in seeing their baskets each year. They especially enjoyed the baskets because they were hidden in the house for them to find on easter morning. We had such great memories!(Sadly she misplaced her basket a few years ago and is unable to locate it)
I bought these baskets, one 32 years ago and the other 28 years ago for my children from the Buttercup when they were on Providence Road beside the Manor Theater. I still put them out for my kids every Easter. I now have a new granddaughter and plan to get one for her first Easter this year
