Many of you Smarties are probably heading out to holiday parties or hosting one yourself. I love going to holiday parties! I can’t partake in some of the holiday festivities this year so I started thinking about a fun cocktail to SERVE if I were hosting a party. Only sparkling cider for me….. I am the official designated driver this year.
Anyways, I wanted to pass a long a few ideas if you were looking for something special. On a side note remember to drink responsibly, enjoy yourself yet be safe. It’s always a good idea to have a designated driver or please call a taxi.
– Candy Cane Martini
Combine 1 ¼ ounces vanilla vodka, 1 ¼ ounces of white crème de cacao, and ¾ ounce peppermint schnapps into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Crush candy canes to coat the rim instead of sugar. This is worth making just for the esthetics!
– Holiday Mojito
o Add cranberries marinated in orange rum for a few days to your usual mojito. Then you crush them just like you do the mint.
We can’t forget the golden oldies….
– Eggnog
You can switch it up a bit by adding vanilla ice cream.
Combine 8 scoops of vanilla ice cream, 1 ½ cup eggnog, ½ bourbon, ½ cup brandy, 2 tablespoons orange liquor and ¼ tsp nutmeg in a blender. Blend until smooth. Garnish with sprinkle of nutmeg. You can make it minus the bourbon, brandy and liquor as well.
If you need to heat things up a bit and if you have a large crowd then Wassail may be your answer.
– Wassail
o Combine 1 gallon apple cider, 2 twelve ounce cans of frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed, 4 cinnamon sticks, 1 tablespoon ground cloves and ½ ground allspice. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat and simme r 15 minutes. Place a few apple rings, a sliced orange and lemon in the bottom of a punch bowl. Then add 4 cups of white wine. Add apple cider mixture. Stir and serve.
Of course wine, coffee, tea, hot chocolate are great options as well.
If you are looking for a non alcoholic beverage then try a holiday punch. Combine 4 cups of cranberry juice, cinnamon sticks and honey to your taste.
Please share if you have a holiday favorite!

My friend and I were recently talking about how involved with technology our daily lives have become. Reading this post makes me think back to that debate we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside… I just hope that as the price of memory falls, the possibility of uploading our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's a fantasy that I daydream about every once in a while.(Posted on Nintendo DS running R4i Card DS NetBrowze)
