I know you all love your little furry companions. They are completely loyal, sometimes like a best friend and were probably termed your “first child.” Now ladies, I am talking felines and canines here, not your hubbies. Just kidding!! Seriously though, we all have an opportunity here to help out Adkins Pet Rescue. Unfortunately, due to the present state of the economy, Adkins Pet Rescue will be closing in the near future. They need to have all the pets adopted or ….well, you know what happens. You can help by either adopting a pet yourself or spreading the word so we can find ALL these pets a home.
Adkins Pet Rescue is waiving all adoption fees and will even arrange transportation to your home if you do not live in Charlotte. Please forward to family or friends out of state because they can also arrange transportation in these circumstances. It appears that they will even accept foster homes, so that is an option as well. The important issue is to just find them homes or they will be euthanized. Temporary homes are better than no home at all. Of course, we want them to be placed in their “forever” home but again, this is a time sensitive issue. Please, please, help in any way you can. There are 28 dogs and 21 cats that need to be adopted. They have been spayed/neutered, have all their vaccinations, and the dogs are microchipped. This is an amazing organization. They opened in March 2007 and have placed over 300 pets. They have done a fabulous job but really could use our help now.
We have a golden retriever at home that we love dearly. My kids love him and we may complain about the shedding but he is truly a member of the family. We adopted Riley from the Golden Retriever Rescue. He is such a good dog! So what I am saying here is if you are looking for a pet, this is the perfect opportunity to find one! Rescue dogs/cats in my opinion are some of the most loving creatures. They will truly appreciate you and all the attention your family will give them. I also had the opportunity to foster a few dogs as well. I would have kept them all if I had the green light from the husband. There is great satisfaction knowing that you saved these precious creatures beyond anything I can explain. The kids will have years and years to enjoy this new addition to your family. What better way to instill a love of animals? My kids are really into feeding Riley right now. They feel this “independence” in feeding their dog. The problem is sometimes we aren’t sure when or if they fed Riley, so we error on the side of feeding him again. Riley may have packed on a few pounds but is happy with all the new attention.
Please take a look at the adoptable pets at Adkins Pet Rescue and see who seems to jump out at you. Better yet, make an appointment to go and see them. I bet you don’t leave empty handed.
