Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. I know, I know, it’s another Hallmark holiday. We actually lay low on Valentine’s Day. My husband “forgot” to make reservations for our first Valentine’s Day so he made dinner for me instead. It has become a tradition and it’s about the one and only meal I get cooked for me all year long. He can’t cook but he follows the directions on his mother’s recipe cards very well. 🙂 I am so lucky that my mother in law is a pro in the kitchen. So that’s about all we usually do but I am going to change it up a little this year.
I came across a site called Tunes for Trees. This is a socially and environmentally conscious corporation based out of Chicago that plants a tree for every 10 iTunes tracks you buy. You just purchase them as you normally would but you go through their site first. Heck, who doesn’t want more tunes for their IPod? Of course, I love that they are planting trees and my hubby would love some new music. Win, win for me.
I also think that a good break from the traditional sending flowers would be to get some hyacinths or daffodils. You can enjoy them for the week and then you have bulbs to plant in the fall. So you plant them and enjoy them for years to come. My version of reusing instead of throwing the cut stems away.
This day is also a good excuse for me to go buy some organic/fair trade chocolate from Earth Fare and a good bottle of wine while I am at it. Get my chocolate and head across the street to the Wine Store. Then go home to my hubby sweating in the kitchen. Ahhhhhhhhh. I am dreaming?
