Looking for a venue to host a birthday party, family reunion or even a casual wedding this summer? Did you know that Mecklenburg County has over 75 facilities for rent ranging from large, medium or small shelters to indoor facilities and wedding sites? Go to the Parks and Rec site for all the details. For each facility, they show pictures and list out capacity, amenities, rates and rental information. Oh – and if you have a really big event that you need space for, you can even rent out Memorial Stadium for a mere $6,185 per day!
There is also information on the site about local parks, spraygrounds, nature preserves, and fitness centers. I was actually quite impressed with the options available to us and had no idea all this was out there at our disposal!
If you’ve had good experiences with Parks and Rec or fun things to recommend for the summer, let us know!

We hosted my son’s 4th birthday at a park shelter – it was perfect! Plenty of room to invite whomever we wanted, easy setup/cleanup, fun times, room to handle kids and parents. As it turned out we didn’t really need to reserve it b/c there was no one else there that day, but I wanted to be sure we had a central point for cake and stuff. Certainly worth the $50 compared to other party costs we could have incurred. Plus, it was more like a backyard party just without having to clean my house. Bonus! Advice? Look for a park with real bathrooms!
Call early to reserve your spot because they can fill up quickly. Also a week or so before the party call and make sure you are really on the books….when we had a party at one of the latta park shelters, they really didn’t have us booked! It turned out fine, but for a bit it was touch and go where we would end up being! just a heads up! Great locations and always a good time.
