A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra

Introduce children to the instruments of the orchestra through Benjamin Britten’s classic, A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, then hear those instruments strut their stuff as they twist and shout to the tunes of The Beatles. Kids of all ages are invited to the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art Saturday, February 11 from noon to 4:30 p.m. to unleash their creative energy while learning about the museum’s collection. Hands-on art activities based on methods and materials addressed in the exhibition A Legacy of Friendship: Hans Bechtler’s Birthday Book will connect participants to the creative process. Children 5 and older can make one-of-a-kind, monoprint cards and glue-resist paintings influenced by artist Mark Tobey. Additional art projects will explore geometry, line and color through techniques used in the exhibition Geometry and Experimentation: European Art of the 1960s and 1970s. Admission to Family Day is free for everyone under 18 years old; all others receive a discounted ticket price of $4. Museum members are free.

Freely based on the book of Genesis, CHILDREN OF EDEN is a heartfelt and humorous examination of the age-old conflict between parents and children. Adam, Eve, Noah and the FATHER that created them deal with head strong actions of their respective children. CHILDREN OF EDEN is being presented by the musical companies of Matthews Playhouse. Go Kids Go is a FREE community event for children ages 0-12 and their families which aligns with the JLC’s Healthy Child Initiative. At each event, kids will participate in various fun-filled physical activities, learn about nutrition, safety and disease prevention. Cost is free.
