Growing numbers of children and teenagers are facing unprecedented levels of anxiety and despair at increasingly younger ages. Early and frequent stress can negatively impact learning and overall mental and physical health. Charlotte Christian School will host Dr. Chinwé Williams to share “Helping Kids & Teens Feel Seen Through The Power of Connection.” This parent education event will take place on Thursday, March 23 from 7-8:30 p.m. on the campus of Charlotte Christian School in the Center for Worship and Performing Arts’ Alkire Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public and available for parents of all ages. Please click here to RSVP.
In this message, Dr. Williams guides parents, educators and caring adults in understanding what’s going on in the brain of a child experiencing high anxiety or despair, and the most effective ways to respond in the moment while reinforcing connection. Dr. Williams provides examples and practical neuroscientific strategies from her work as a therapist and as a mom of three. If you are a parent, grandparent, educator or part of a child’s village, you will learn practical tools to foster healthy coping skills in your child or teen while promoting courage and connection.
“The last few years have been anything but ordinary; the pandemic touched all our lives in one way or another,” shared CCS Lower School Counselor Angela Liner. “From the kindergartener whose preschool years were disjointed, to the eighth grader whose middle school years had added complexity, to the senior class preparing for yet another change. We recognize that as we find our footing and new normal, it is vital to focus on and invest in the mental health of our students. Our mission is to educate the whole child and we know that equipping the people in our students’ daily lives – the parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches, mentors – is the most effective way to connect with and support this generation of students.”
Dr. Williams is the founder and owner of Meaningful Solutions Counseling & Consulting in Roswell, Ga. She earned her doctorate in counselor education and practice from Georgia State University and her master’s degree in counseling from the University of Georgia. As a board certified and dedicated mental health professional, she is an authority on topics relating to interpersonal trauma resolution, stress and anxiety management, and adolescent, young adult and women’s wellness issues.
