We are so excited to have a new Smarty Partner: MoveStudio! This wonderful dance studio is located in the Oakhurst neighborhood (right behind Common Market on Monroe Rd), and offers a variety of classes ranging from preschool to adult, ballet to hip-hop, and they offer a virtual learning camp during the week!
Get to know the director April Nolan!
I am originally from Savannah, Georgia where I practiced dance starting at age 2 until I left for college at the University of GA. There I studied as a dance minor and business major, with the intention of opening a dance studio. I ended up directing a couple of dance performance companies (ballroom dance based) in Athens, GA, I later obtained my Pilates certification while living in Phoenix, AZ.
It was always my plan to open a dance studio for children, but MoveStudio was inspired by my love for dance, Pilates and yoga. I felt there were other people out there who also loved a variety in movement and would like to be able to find them all under one roof. Once we moved back to Charlotte and I opened MoveStudio when my first child was a little less than a year old.
The youth program has grown up alongside my two kids (I often call the studio my “2nd baby”… Emerson was born in July 2010, Move in May 2011, and Brock in June 2012.) My dream is to continue to build a dance program that provides quality dance education for all ages, but also puts the health and well-being of the student first, incorporating the principles of Pilates to keep their bodies safe, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
We offer classes and private lessons in a variety of dance styles including ballet, jazz, acrobatics, tap, hip-hop, partner dance, as well as Pilates and barre fitness.
