By our Smarty portrait experts at ART GALLERY ORIGINALS
Our best advice to prospective portrait clients — have photos taken. We have worked with clients — over 1,000 — for the last 16 years. We say it all the time. Please have portrait reference photos taken. While there is no one age that is best for a children’s oil portrait, often our clients prefer younger. And, that can slip by very easily. Go ahead, mark your calendar and schedule the reference photo session. By making sure to have pictures made of your child at that special age, you capture that most precious stage and you have options. Now, you can commission immediately (it can be hard to wait) or way down the road.
When it comes to the importance of the reference photo, we get it. Until going through the portrait commission process, it is hard to really appreciate the unique qualities of a portrait reference photo. It is the lighting, composition and expression that makes it special and a photo that families aren’t likely to just have in their collection.
