The Carolina Raptor center understands the importance of staying connected with nature. When they received notice that school was going to be cancelled and they would have to close their doors until further notice, it became their mission to provide an outdoor educational resource for all their bird loving fans.
And that is exactly what they did!
Let me introduce you to Avian Home Adventures
Every day at 11:00 am head over to the Carolina Raptor’s Facebook page for an Avian Home Adventure: “a daily nose to beak adventure to brighten your day!” This is your chance to get up close and personal with the different raptors and their keepers.
*This is a livestream event so you can ask questions, too! Don’t fret – if you can’t make it at 11:00 am all videos are saved and archived on their Facebook page for later viewing.
In Smartyland, WE ARE BIG FANS of the Carolina Raptor Center! Day 1 of their Avian Home Adventures – we were hooked! Our favorite so far is the episode about Noble, the center’s resident Golden Eagle. She is beautiful! Not too long ago, we visited the center and saw her in person. She spread her wings and showed us her amazing wingspan (6 feet) – it was a W-O-W moment! It was SOOOOO Amazing!
Thank you, Carolina Raptor Center, for providing such amazing enrichment for our little Smarties! We are having the best time watching your videos and learning more about your resident birds. Because of you, we have started watching for hawks and listening for owls in our backyard. Although we haven’t spotted an owl yet – we have heard them. They love to communicate with each other late at night. We have loved every minute of it!
**Also Smarties, be on the lookout for Carolina Raptor Center’s 7 am Facebook posts with the hashtag #EDUCATIONRESOURCES. Each post includes links to activities, videos, webcams, websites – you name it – from other facilities both locally and nationally. SO MUCH GOOD STUFF!

More about Carolina Raptor Center:
“We love the birds. We are passionate about the humans.”
Birds have captured the creative imagination of humans for thousands of years. You find examples of this in art, science, and culture all over the world. The bird-human interaction inspired a mythical Icarus to fly, printmaking by John James Audubon, Chinese kite-makers, Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, Leonardo DaVinci’s aeronautical designs, NASCAR’s aerodynamic calculations, the successful flight of Orville and Wilbur Wright, trips to the moon and, in popular culture, Harry Potter’s Owl mailmen and the Guardians of Ga’ Hoole. Carolina Raptor Center seeks to make connections with these inspirations in order to create wonder for visitors of all ages. Our exhibits meet visitors through concepts that they understand in order to activate them to protect the natural world in new and creative ways. Our programs spark creativity in children and adults to take these connections and engage in science, art and cultural change to better the world around us.
