Let Me Run is a nonprofit running and wellness program that inspires boys to be themselves, be active, and belong. The program aids in developing boys’ emotional, social, and physical health. Summer Camp is an extension of the LMR program for rising 4 th – 8 th grade boys. Campers bond while running, exploring the Sugar Creek Greenway, learning from guest presenters, completing a service project, and participating in an “Amazing Race.”
Let Me Run Summer Camp is the perfect space for boys to be themselves and make friends outside of school. Don’t just take our word for it. Five-time LMR Summer Camp Coach Courtney Jones explains, “I’ve seen transformations as traditionally shy kids have felt an increased level of comfort and open up to more peer interaction. In my opinion, that is one of the goals: to allow kids a safe place to be comfortable, have fun, and express themselves. The camp has an awesome way of turning total strangers into a tight-knit group of young boys. We, as camp counselors, witness how they pull for one another and work together to accomplish a goal. The group becomes a band of brothers by the end of the week.”
To all the Charlotte Smarty Pants parents reading, Jones says, “I would tell parents that the camp provides an excellent opportunity for physical activity, teamwork, and creativity. Any apprehension about camp is usually gone after the first hour. The camp is welcoming to kids of all running ability.”
And if your boy needs any more convincing, pass along these words from Jones: “I would tell a young boy interested in the camp to ‘jump’ at the opportunity. The camp encompasses so much within a week’s time. Most campers decide to do two summer sessions because of the fun they had and the friendships they’ve made.”
