From our Smarty friends at Bold Music Lessons
Is your middle school or high schooler a budding young musician? If so, we’ve got one of the coolest summer camp offerings you’ll find in the Queen City.
The Bold Music Studio Recording and Songwriting Camps are designed to show aspiring musicians what it is like to be a recording artist, engineer or producer. With small groups and top notch instruction, participants spend a week in one of Charlotte’s premier recording studios honing their skills while writing and recording completely original music. At the end of each session, songs are professionally mixed, mastered, and published on Spotify, Apple Music and all other major streaming services. Simply search “Bold Music Studio Band” to hear all of the amazing music from past sessions! Additionally, campers have the opportunity to perform their music LIVE at one of our Gig Nights.
Participants of this camp have gone on to enroll at some of the finest music programs in the country: the Indiana University Jacobs school of music, Belmont University in Nashville, and NC’s very own Appalachian State Hayes School of Music, to name a few. They have cited their time at the studio as some of their fondest, most transformative musical experiences. Many keep in touch with fellow campers, supporting each other in music and in life well beyond their time at the studio.
About 5 years ago, Bold Music Co-founders George Ramsay and Dean Williams set out to create a program they wished they could have had as teenagers: an authentic experience that is on par with what a professional studio band would have, but with expert instruction and guidance. Campers write and record ALL the music in intimate groups of campers of similar age. Each musician brings their own perspective, influences and talents to the table, and the resulting music is a magical product of this collaboration!
Participating in our camps inspires young musicians to continue progressing musically and personally while building confidence, emphasizing teamwork and collaboration, exposing them to new musical perspectives and challenging them to think outside the box.
“Over and over again, we have seen it be an incredibly transformative experience,” Ramsay notes. “Kids come of out the week with a heightened passion for their craft and a new dedication to studying, practicing, and improving. Some have even found careers, in part from this experience. Others cite the impact of their time at camp in their college applications.”
Bold co-founder Dean Williams offers another perspective: “At the end of the day, it’s just a really fun, cool, mature, and unique experience. Almost everyone who loves to play music has fantasized about recording songs in a real studio, and we’re making that dream come true.”
