Falcons find a home at Fletcher
The Fletcher School is an independent, K-12 school offering a college preparatory curriculum for students with learning differences. Established in 1982, Fletcher is a place of extraordinary potential—a joyful learning environment lit by the smiles of our students. You need only spend a few moments in our corridors or classrooms to hear, to see, and to understand the Fletcher difference.
With an average 6:1 teacher-to-student ratio, our bright, often gifted students learn in a small, structured educational environment. Utilizing the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching, instruction is sequential, cumulative, and repetitious in order for students to achieve mastery. Individual and prescriptive plans of instruction are developed for each student and multisensory learning techniques are employed to meet the needs of all types of learners. Our students quickly uncover their strengths and hidden talents at Fletcher.
Falcons Take Flight
Through our program, our Falcons develop a strong understanding of their unique style of learning. They learn how to recognize and excel at their dominant modality (auditory, visual, or kinesthetic) while incorporating techniques to strengthen their less dominant learning pathways. In this process, our Falcons grow as confident learners and as confident, highly self-aware young children and adults. Our students not only learn the academic skills needed to succeed, but the crucial skills of self-advocacy, motivation, organization, and interpersonal relationships that are necessary for success in all areas of life.
Falcons Soar
Fletcher’s program provides our Falcons with the tools that allow them to be the best learners they can be. They know what they need in order to reach their full potential, and they know how to get there. As confident self-advocates, Fletcher Falcons embrace their learning differences and step out into the world to meet great success. A recent longitudinal study of our graduates between 2004-2010 sheds light on their achievement upon leaving Fletcher, showing that 63% of these graduates who enrolled in college completed postsecondary programs within 6 years! (Compare to: 37.5% of students with learning differences nationally completed postsecondary programs within 6 years, and 53% of all students completed postsecondary programs within 6 years.)
Our Falcons are assured in their abilities and strengths throughout their time at Fletcher, and continue to stride forward with purpose on the path to fulfillment and life success!
