Polka dots and plaid? Leopard prints and argyle? Sounds like what my daughter used to wear when she started dressing herself! But that’s the way to express your creative side this year at Studio Party 16 and support the most unique contemporary art center in Charlotte: McColl Center for Art + Innovation.
You know the place, that old church in uptown Charlotte next to Charlotte Ballet. We’ve been taking our kids to McColl Center’s Family Art Making Days and Open Studio Saturdays for years. They love meeting artists in their studios, learning about art from the makers themselves, and exploring the beautiful building. It’s a perfect place to get our kids interested in art in a more hands-on, face to face way than a typical museum.
So back to the party! Studio Party 16 happens on Saturday, April 16 from 7-10 PM. It’s a fundraiser to support the rotating Artists-in-Residence and allows McColl Center to provide amazing community outreach and educational programs. The evening will be filled with contemporary art and artists, pop-up performances, delicious bites of food, and cocktails! Original artwork by the local, national, and international artists that have been at McColl Center will be available for sale, too. It’s a great and affordable way to start or add to your art collection, directly support the artists, and help McColl Center make Charlotte a more creative place for our families.
Take advantage of the opportunity to express your creative side and take a break from the basic black dress. What to wear this year is clashing patterns and prints so have fun with it! Capitol, one of my favorite boutiques in town, is sponsoring Studio Party 16 and has all kinds of fashion ideas ready for you. Their windows are filled with patterns and prints to get your creative juices flowing. I have my eye on a Mary Katrantzou dress that would be perfect!
So line up a sitter, start putting your outfit together, and buy tickets now for the gala that’s more fun than a gala – Studio Party 16 at McColl Center!
