Today’s Smarty Summer Camp Guide is from our friends at the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte.
Make friends, act up, and have FUN! Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s (CTC) Summer Camps offer a performance experience for students ages 3-18 in a creative, interactive environment. Full-day, one- and two-week sessions offer exciting and challenging experience for both new and returning students in a variety of theatre concentrations.
Professional teaching artists lead campers in acting, singing, dancing, and art activities that culminate in a performance for family and friends. Camps meet at ImaginOn, UNC-Charlotte and Charlotte Latin School. Check our web site for tuition, schedule, registration, and more.
Camps are grouped by age:
Early Childhood (1-week, half-day, ages 3-5)
Our one-week, half-day Early Childhood camps for ages 3, 4, and 5 provide a fun and exciting experience for our youngest participants. Campers use creative dramatics to explore a new story each day while integrating drama, music, art and creative play. Classrooms will be transformed into an imaginative world for each theme with tactile, visual, and auditory sensory integration and will conclude with a share for family and friends on the last day of camp.
Primary (1-week, full day, rising K-2nd grade)
Our one-week, full-day Primary camps for rising K-2nd graders provide an imaginative outlet for this energetic young age. Students develop foundational acting skills by rehearsing a story drama with their classmates throughout the week while rotating through drama, dance, music and art class. The week concludes with a final camp day performance for family and friends. Camps follow the same structure; each title features different scripts, songs and literature connections.
Acting (1 & 2-week, full-day, rising 3rd-7th grade)
These one-week, full-day camps provide a fun and unique theatre experience for rising 3rd-7th grade students. Acting camps rotate through acting, movement and art activities daily. The week concludes with a final camp day performance for family and friends.
Musical Performance (1 & 2-week, full-day, rising 3rd-7th grade)
These one-week, full-day camps provide a fun and unique musical theatre experience for rising 3rd-7th grade students. Musical camps rotate campers through acting, music, art and dance each day. The week concludes with a final camp day performance for family and friends.
The Aristocats Kids (Musical)
With up-tempo jazzy beats, students will dive into Disney’s popular feline adventure, combining music, art, dance and drama to create exuberant group numbers in The Artistocats Kids.
This two-week camp provides an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of producing a show as campers rehearse a popular musical culminating in a performance on the final camp day. A short audition on the first day places students in appropriate roles. This summer campers will produce the popular musical Shrek Jr. while rotating to music, art, dance and drama class throughout the two weeks.
