My bouncing little preschooler is often described as a little gymnast. She’s brave and daring and nothing like her cautious Mom and Dad. I can’t even do a cartwheel, pathetic, I know. We started taking lessons with My Gym to escape some of the winter weather and it was a huge hit! Annie would try to pronounce “gymnastics” every Friday morning and she would sprint to the car as we headed out for lessons. To say it was a success for both Mom and child would be an understatement!
My Gym usually starts with a little free play. Annie loves getting acquainted with the space before class starts. My favorite part of the program is that they have the kids answer questions in front of the whole class. Our class ranged from 2-5 kids each week. It was a great opportunity for my preschooler to gain confidence as she proudly told them what her favorite snack was or what she did for Valentines Day.
Next they’d move on to a lesson or skill of the day. These ranged from walking on a beam to doing a back handspring (assisted, of course), to swinging standing up. The teachers were incredibly helpful and I loved watching Annie master a new skill each week. It really helped her gain awareness of her body and confidence.
In between activities they’d have some more free play and other lesson plans. Finally, they’d finish up with a little song. It was an absolute hoot each week to sit back and watch Annie grow and challenge herself. She’s gained confidence, new friends and a love for exercise. We are huge fans of My Gym! I highly recommend it!
