As Smarty Moms we make decisions all day. Some decisions are fun like: Should we go to the pool or Carowinds today? We all like these decisions! Others can be much bigger like: Should my child see a specialist or take a medication for a health issue? We make so many decisions that we hardly recognize it until the end of the day. We all hit mental exhaustion, and that one question from your sweet child just seems to be so overwhelming. Have you been there? Our Smarty Moms from Providence Eye, Kristen, Director of Marketing, and Dr. Vanessa Mills, Optometrist, sure have.
These two Smarty Mom’s have 5 kids between them ranging in age from 1 year to 13 years. They also have an inside view of the world of LASIK. This gives them the unique qualification to help you decide if this is the right time in your life for you to consider LASIK eye surgery.
Scenario 1: Smarty Mom wanna be. I’m a young woman in my twenties, hoping to be a smarty mom someday. Is now a good time for LASIK?
Dr. Mills here! Well, I wish I was still in my twenties but it was not that long ago…… 🙂 Absolutely, go for it. In fact this is when I have my vision correction surgery. As long as you have had a stable prescription for the last 1-2 years, you may be a perfect fit for LASIK. You can enjoy your younger years going glasses and contact lens free! As a bonus you will be even more prepared (when you do want to have kids someday) to be getting up in the middle of the night for those late night feedings without having to put on a pair of glasses to care for your beautiful baby.
Scenario 2: Bursting Smarty Mom. Bring on the babies! I’m pregnant! Does not matter with # 1, 2 or 3. Is this a good time for me to have LASIK?
Hi, Director of Marketing Kristen here. It’s been over 10 years since I have been pregnant and 13 since my first pregnancy but it is something you can’t forget (for good or for bad :-)) At Providence Eye & Laser Specialists we don’t just look at your vision but we look at the health of your eyes and the health of your whole body. We all know that your body can be volatile during pregnancy so we do not recommend LASIK while you are pregnant. Dr. Mozayeni would ask that you have your safe delivery and return to your first normal cycle and then contact us about your complimentary consultation and we can discuss if this is the right time for you to have LASIK.
Scenario 3: Veteran Smarty Mom! I’ve got a couple of kids and I’m done. Maybe it is time now for me to have LASIK?
Hi, Smarty Mom Dr. Mills again. This is my professional & personal advice if you are at this stage of your life. Now that your hormones are back on track to being more even which usually correlates to more stable vision, this may be the perfect time to do something just for yourself and consider LASIK! Even though you’re still having to keep up with your energetic kiddos, LASIK gives you the freedom to not have to keep up with yet one more thing such as contact lenses and glasses as well.
Scenario 4: Wow, how times flies! Kids are growing fast and I’m in my early to mid forties. So tired of dealing with contacts & glasses. Time for a change?
Smarty Mom Kristen here! Crazy how fast it goes, my twins just turned 13 and my youngest is 10. Have you noticed that need to hold my menu further and further with every date night with your husband? There is hope and it is definitely not too late for LASIK. The technological advances have been so great over the past several years that Dr. Mozayeni now has options to correct both your distance and near reading vision. Also, maybe you don’t mind reading glasses, and then correcting distance only may be an option. The important part is to have a real conversation with Dr. Mozayeni to understand what options might exist to correct your vision.
See, maybe this is not a hard decision after all. As long as you are not pregnant this could be the time for you! The one thing we do hear time and time again from our LASIK patients is “Why did I wait so long?” So maybe it is time to do something for Y-O-U. Maybe you shouldn’t any longer. So if this is your time, call Providence Eye & Laser Specialists and book your complimentary LASIK consultation. Talk to Dr. Mozayeni and learn if you are a good candidate and if this is the right time in your life to have LASIK. He’ll give you the honest answer and help you make the decision that is best for you.
Not ready for LASIK but need general eye care? Great! Dr. Vanessa Mills is now accepting new patients over the age of eight.
We look forward to meeting more Smarty Moms at our office. And make sure you tell us that you’re a Smarty Mom!
