Fads come and go like the wind. Over the past few years, Snap Cap necklaces, Silly Bandz, Squinkies and Zhu Zhu pets have all lived large in our house. Funny – if you put a gun to my head and told me I had to find one single Silly Band at my house, I wouldn’t be able to. However, those little bracelets were H-O-T in their day.
My daughter was ‘all in’ on the Rainbow Loom. Last summer was one of the rainiest on record (remember all of the swim meets in the pouring rain?!?) and many of us thanked the Rainbow Loom for being in our lives. Smarty Zack developed a barter system with his kids. They did chores to earn time on the loom in 15 minute increments. Brillz.
Zippy chain, zigzag, taffy twist, rainbow bridge, sailor’s pinstripe, starburst, dragon scale cuff, inverted fishtail, triple single, diamond pattern – our kids spoke in this ‘loom code’ all summer and into the fall. And, the parents compared notes wondering whose kid would complete the Rainbow Loom mini handbag first…the tippity top of the Rainbow Loom food chain. It was total loomacy, I tell ya!
And then the Rainbow Loom bracelets were banned from our school. And just like that…the loom started losing it’s luster.
Well, we’ve had a Rainbow Loom revival at our house. Move over bracelets and make room for figurines – monkey with a banana, snake, poodle, duck, little girl, Christmas sweater charm, reindeer, wreath, etc. Team Plym is on the revival train, too. Check out that amazing green unicorn with the horn and mane!
Smarties, get that loom out of hiding…this old gal still has some legs left! And, don’t you wonder…what is the next Rainbow Loom?
Here are some You Tube videos with instructions on how to make some of these figures:
