At 9 am on November 16th, local runners will gather at Hough High School to race, jog, and walk in 5K eRACE the Impact to help raise funds for homeless children!
My name is Emily Reader and I am a senior at Hough High School in Cornelius. Over the summer, I decided I wanted to make a difference in the community and do something to make a change.
As a 4-year cross country runner and 2-year captain of the team, hosting a charity 5K was my first idea. I knew immediately who I wanted to raise funds for: “A Child’s Place”, an organization that works within the Charlotte Mecklenburg System to help erase the impact of homeless on children and their education.
I chose to help “A Child’s Place” because in my opinion, our local community doesn’t get enough attention. While helping other areas of the world is important, it’s easy to forget that almost 5,000 students in CMS were homeless last year. School and other activities puts heavy stress on students and without the security and support of a home, this stress can harm students. Personally, my family and my home are the foundation of my success as a student, an athlete, and as organizer of this event.
“A Child’s Place” (ACP) is a fantastic organization that provides academic assistance, emotional stability, and some financial aid for homeless children. By helping more students graduate from high school, “ACP” is helping them create a solid and successful future for themselves. With more of today’s generation graduating from high school, less students in the future will be homeless.
Together, we can break the endless cycle of homelessness. Please show your support for this great cause by raising funds and registering for eRACE the Impact today. All proceeds will be directly donated to “A Child’s Place”.

Emily, WOW! if more people had your dedication, passion and drive the world would be a better place. I completely agree with your thoughts on “local”. If every community came together to “better” itself we could put an enormous dent in most of today’s problems. You should be proud, your parents should be proud and Charlotte should be proud of YOU. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing on CSP.
Hi, I jumped over to your web page via Pinterest. Not a thing I customarily read, however I appreciate your ideas nevertheless. Thank you for creating some thing worthy of reading!
