Christmas in Davidson is one of my family’s most favorite holiday activities. The Town of Davidson kicks off the Christmas season with this annual event, and has been doing so since 1988. This year it is being held December 5th, 6th and 7th from 6pm – 9pm. There really is something for everyone and it seems as if the entire Lake community turns out for the event. It is a three day event that has generated an attendance of approximately 20,000 for the weekend.
If you have never been to Davidson, think small town quaint, with a very family friendly atmosphere. The event takes over downtown Davidson and all the local businesses participate. Take a stroll down picturesque Main Street and start your Christmas shopping early at any of the unique boutiques. You could sign up for a trolley ride or the beautifully decorated horse drawn carriage is always a big hit with the little ones. You could visit with Santa at his house and afterwards a story with Mrs. Clause. The Holiday Village takes place on the green where you will find all the participating vendors. This is one of my favorite places to browse and get to know local and regional shop owners that I may have missed over the years.
The Ugly Sweater Contest and Doggie Fashion show are also not to be missed. I have seen a few of those sweaters lately that could take the prize. There is a stage offering live music, entertaining holiday theatre and a beautiful living nativity scene. Arts and crafts for kids, gingerbread cookies, ice skating and plenty of hot chocolate. Not to mention, the many restaurants that take part and have a plethora of dinner choices in the square.
It’s just a throwback to what Christmas felt like it would have been decades ago. I love that the whole community participates and comes together to celebrate. If you are looking for something new to do with your family, you may want to check this out. We will certainly be there again this year.
