Today, I’d like you to meet fabulous Smarty Mom, Heather Mackey. She’s a wonderful wife, dedicated mother of three girls, and a successful real estate broker here in Charlotte. She’s always working hard whether it is taking clients to see homes, writing up contracts, volunteering at preschool, being a room mom, driving her daughters to activities, or spending time in bible study. I do not know how she does it all, but she does! And does it well…so WELL that she continues to be a top producer for Dickens Mitchener over the past few years. The dedication she shows to her clients is truly evident and has allowed her to achieve more than she ever realized she could.
At the same time, Heather is a wonderful mother & wife and true believer of Christ. You ask her how do you do it all?… and she says I don’t, The Lord does. She is very open about her faith and so thankful for all God has given her in her life. I think Heather provides a great reminder to all moms that we can find a way to do it all. It may be busy and require a lot of prayer, but you can have a successful career and balance time with your family.
So check out this interesting Smarty Mom, Heather Mackey, and if you need to sell or buy a house, this Smarty Mom can do it for you!!!

What are the top 3 things you want CSP readers to know about the real estate market in Charlotte?
Charlotte’s real estate market has seen a wonderful year so far with no signs of slowing down. Yay! We are still in a seller’s market with inventory remaining low. However, we did have an 11% increase in new listings in 2013 overall. With this being said, sales are up 18.5% YTD for 2013 verses 2012. (great news!) What I find most interesting is that interest rates are holding steady around the low 4%’s for a 30 year fixed. If you bought a home in 2006 or 2007, you probably remember interest rates around 6% or higher, what a difference a few years can make. Now couldn’t be a better time to buy or sell!
Typically people want to sell their house in spring/summer months. Now that we’re headed into fall/winter – do you recommend people wait or go with the trending high demand?
Yes, spring is usually when people want to list their home, BUT WHY WAIT?? Inventory is low, there is less competition on the market and there are qualified buyers out there searching for a place to call home.
Tell us what’s trending in Charlotte homes right now.
Open concept living is always a favorite, but I am finding more and more of my clients want an outdoor entertaining space. Screened-in porches, patios with fireplaces and built-in cooking spaces are a huge hit right now. It also doesn’t hurt to have a move-in ready house that doesn’t need a bit of work! ☺
Who are your top 5 home resources in town?
Fresh Air Technologies for crawl space needs, Affordable Chimney for chimney sweeping, Precise Style for organization (Laura is a life-saver!), Adriano my painter, and David Dubose for your remodeling needs
Switching roles here…
What is your favorite thing to do with your family in the fall?
I guess it would be more what we enjoy doing in the winter… we go to Blowing Rock every year to go sledding and playing in the snow. We love being up there as a family and sitting outdoors at Chetola in front of the fire pits.
What is the last meal you cooked?
Liz, are you kidding me right now? LOL.. I will be very honest with everyone I don’t cook a lot so I need to think. It isn’t an entire meal but I did make my homemade banana pudding recently and it always is a crowd-pleaser.
Favorite restaurant to take the whole fam?
That’s easy, Providence Road Sundries. We currently live right around the corner so it is so easy to walk to. We go there so much the wait staff knows us by name! ☺ (Did I tell you I am very busy working mom with little time to cook?)
The phrase you’ve said to your children more than any other at home is…
“Mommy needs a minute … so please just don’t ask me anymore questions right now.” Or “We just have to show one more house, I promise.” (I often have a sidekick or two or three with me)
Funniest thing your children have ever said to you?
“Mom you look so much better with clothes ON.”
What is something most people don’t know about you?
My sister, Hunter Bell, was the winner of NBC’s Fashion Star and has her own clothing line called Hunter Bell. My entire wardrobe almost all comes from her and it’s all great!
My youngest sister Jayme is in Legally Blonde the musical out in L.A. So I guess you could say that I have two incredibly talented sisters. I love them both!!
Best book you’ve ready lately?
I don’t read a lot of book-books. I don’t have the time so it will have to be The Bible. My faith is number one in my life and I am raising my children to put faith as number one in their life. That is how my parents raised me. The Bible is my lifeline… inspiring, uplifting, always teaching and never judging.
Who is your celebrity crush?
Liz, you know this.. Channing Tatum of course! ☺
Favorite CSP article?
Actually it is one I read the other day…Nothing Good Happens After 3pm.
Behavioral trait you hope your kids don’t inherit from you.
My impatience. I pray daily that I will have more patience with life, kids, work, relationships, etc.. We live in a culture that is fast paced and we are use to having things and information at our finger tips. I want my kids to have patience. Call me in a few years and I will tell you how that is working out for me. LOL!
Guilty pleasure?
You has to be watching a old 80’s and 90’smovie’s like Ghostbusters, Hunk, Where the Boys Are, or The Great Outdoors, etc… the list could go on and on.
