Let’s close out Summer 2K13 with a BANG, Smarties, The Circle K Back to School Monster Truck bash presented by Polar Pop is this Saturday, August 10 at the Dirt Track at Charlotte (near the Lowe’s Motor Speedway).
If you’ve got the Monster Truck lingo down like I do (ahem, three boys will give you quite a vocabulary!), the mere mention of these truck names will get you and your kids fired up: last year’s winner Stone Crusher, plus Equalizer, Samson, Brutus, Avenger and Hooked, along with new trucks Gunslinger, Red Solo Truck, Over Bored and Walking Tall. ALL will be competing in this 14th annual event. Check out this video from last year’s event to get the full image.
According to the peeps at the Back to School Monster Truck Bash, monster trucks are typically 11 feet tall and tip the scales at nearly five tons. Their custom-built, fuel-injected engines produce nearly 2,000 horsepower and the gigantic machines can jump 110 to 115 feet—a distance greater than 14 cars lined up side-by-side.
In addition to the monster truck show, there will also be a high-flying motocross exhibition by Team FMX Motocross and a daring performance by master stuntman Super Bob Airborne.
My boys are drooling with just the thought of high-flying motocross exhibitions.
PLUS, this year, fans can ride in a real-life monster truck. Sergeant Smash and Stone Crusher will be on hand throughout the event. Ride vouchers can be purchased in advance for just $5 by calling the ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS (3267) or visiting www.charlottemotorspeedway.com/dirt. Vouchers will be available to purchase for $10 at the event. A minor waiver form must be signed by a parent or guardian for those under the age of 18 and can be downloaded at http://spdwy.ms/waivers.
Festivities begin with the Circle K Pre-Race Pit Party from 4-6 p.m., where fans can meet the monster truck drivers, get autographs and have their pictures taken with the enormous racing machines. Ticket holders can stop by area Circle K stores and bring any size Polar Pop fountain drink for early admission to the Pit Party. The first 1,000 fans to enter the gates will receive a free autograph poster.
Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. and opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Reserved seats for the Aug. 10 Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash presented by Polar Pop are $25 in advance and $30 the week of the event for adults and $10, or just a buck a truck, for children 13 and under.
