Do you feel overwhelmed by raising your children but want to support your community? How can you make an impact without giving a huge amount of time or money at this stage of your life?
These questions were exactly what I was feeling a few years ago when I learned about the non-profit Good Friends of Charlotte. I wanted to make an impact but did not have the time to really devote myself to something with my three daughters being so young.
Luckily I found Good Friends! This woman only non-profit started in 1987 and has contributed over $2 million to the disadvantaged of Mecklenburg County.
The mission is to support individuals and families who have exhausted every other means of help. Most requests are one time needs that other agencies in Charlotte do not have funding for.
For example, Good Friends in the past few months has provided a car seat for a disabled child, a pack n play for a safe sleeping environment for a newborn, and a prom dress for a high school student.
Each December, Good Friends of Charlotte hosts a lunch for its members and their guests to hear about the impact Good Friends is having on our neighbors. It is during this lunch, where we raise our money for a year of charity.
I encourage anyone interested to become a member of Good Friends and attend the luncheon on Tuesday, December 11th at the Grady Cole Center. You will leave with a new prospective as the holidays approach. Please feel free to contact me or visit our website for more information.
