Participants and spectators will enjoy music at every mile of the race and a festival atmosphere following the event including live music, food and drinks.The group will also hold a 1-mile Fun Run/Walk and a Kids’ Dash featuring Chubby of the Charlotte Checkers. The Rock & Read 5K will take place at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, Scaleybark Branch in Southend. For the first time, there will be team fundraising! All proceeds benefit the 2012 Friends of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library effort to fundraise for book collections at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library. Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is the signature fundraising and awareness walk of the American Diabetes Association. Step Out helps raise money that will change the future of diabetes. The day of the event is a party to celebrate the fundraising accomplishments of our teams and individuals as well as an opportunity to promote awareness about the seriousness of diabetes.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame introduces its newest exhibit, Wrecks! Dramatic Crashes of NASCAR. The most action-packed exhibit to date at the facility, it presents an impactful visual that puts the breathtaking, inevitable part of racing front and center, exploring how competitors and their equipment are pushed to the limit and beyond. Featuring cars, artifacts and media, the exhibit chronicles some of NASCAR’s most spectacular wrecks; each of the drivers featured emerged to race again. Wrecks! Dramatic Crashes of NASCAR runs through mid-February. Cost is $19.95 for adults, $17.95 for seniors and military, $12.95 for children 5-12 and free for children younger than 5.
