I just finished putting up my outdoor Christmas lights. I know it’s not even Thanksgiving, and I know it’s 60 degrees outside, but I had to do it.
Maybe it’s because retailers are making me frantic with their talk of an earlier Black Friday.
Maybe it’s the thought of all that must be accomplished in the next 30 days (mostly by ME).
Maybe it’s because both sides of our family are coming for Thanksgiving, and I want that poor forgotten holiday to have a little twinkle of its own.
Maybe it’s the thought that my 16-month-old will have two more weeks of “Ohhhh’s” when he sees the lights every night.
Maybe it’s knowing that when the clock strikes midnight on December 26, I will be D.O.N.E with Christmas, so I might as well tack on a few extra days at the beginning of the season before I feel completely claustrophobic from all the dried tree needles and falling ornaments.
Maybe it’s because the house just looks so darn cozy with all those twinkling lights, and I want the Christmas season to at least seem perfect from the outside for as long as possible.
Whatever the reason, apparently a lot of you have had the very same thoughts because I just bought the last six boxes of white net lights of the brand I like at my Target. Don’t worry, I’m sure there’s more in the back…
